LeBron James Reportedly to Be 'Overly Cautious' at Lakers Practice, Prioritize Health

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James plans to be "overly cautious" when it comes to his health during the 2025-26 season, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin . To that end, McMenamin reported Tuesday on NBA Today that James "will be limited in his on-court participation" when the Lakers have their first practice. Despite being the oldest active player in the NBA, LeBron has continued to show remarkable durability. He has played at least 70 games in each of the past two seasons. James did suffer a sprained MCL in the Lakers' season-ending loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series last season. The injury occurred midway through the fourth quarter, and he briefly went to the bench before returning for most of the fina l seven minutes. On the May 20 episode of the Mind the Game podcast he does with Steve Nash, James said his knee was feeling "a hell of a lot better." He didn't have to undergo any surger...

Lakers’ LeBron James is happy after tumultuous offseason, at least for now

LOS ANGELES — There was no brooding from LeBron James at Lakers media day. Quite the opposite, in fact. The 40-year-old who expressed so much uncertainty about his future with the franchise in late June, and wasn't offered a contract beyond this season in the talks with team officials which preceded that revealing messaging, beamed with all the joy of a starstruck rookie as he spent his time on the press conference podium. He toted his massive energy drink jug around as if it was a school box, joked with reporters in between thoughtful answers and acted like he was genuinely thrilled and grateful to be there. All of which is great for the Lakers when it comes to this season ahead, as their only path to true title contention is with James buyin g in and being at his oldie-but-goodie best. But there was no retirement announcement from James , which — for now, at least — would seem to indicate that the notion of playing next season is still in play. And considering the pricklin...

Lakers’ LeBron James Reveals Real Reason He Didn’t Retire This Offseason

The NBA season is just around the corner, and on Monday, teams across the league held their annual media day — a gathering where players come together for the first time to preview the upcoming season. For 40-year-old LeBron James , this is far from new. In fact, it marks his 23rd media day. When he steps on the court on Oct. 21 for opening night against the Golden State Warriors, James will become the longest-tenured player in NBA history, surpassing Vince Carter. The main question surrounding James' career at this stage is when he will retire, despite continuing to play at an elite level each season. It was one of the first questions asked when he approached the microphone on Monday. W hile he didn't provide a definitive timeline, he did reveal the driving force behind his decision to return for another season with the Lakers: Luka Doncic, who the team acquired at the trade deadline last season in one of the most shocking trades in NBA history. "Full season with Lu...

Kanye West betrayal list names North West and LeBron James sparking family rumors and NBA controversy

Kanye West has stirred controversy once again after posting, and later deleting, a so-called "betrayal list" on social media. The rapper, who has a history of airing grievances online, claimed the individuals on the list had caused him pain "that no one person can fix," according to Arise. Among the most surprising names were his 12-year-old daughter, North West, and NBA star LeBron James. Despite maintaining a public bond with North—she has appeared alongside West and his wife Bianca Censori during outings and even featured in his "TALKING" music video—rumors suggest father and daughter have disagreed over her fashion choices, according to Rappers Group/Facebook. Reports claim this clash may have driven a wedge between them. LeBron James' in...

LeBron James' Agent Rich Paul Says Don't 'Worry About the Future' for Lakers Star

There has been plenty of speculation about what will come for Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James after the 2025-26 campaign, but his agent offered a word of advice for those thinking about James' future. Rich Paul told ESPN's Shams Charania that fans should appreciate watching James rather than wondering what might come next. "It's important not to worry about the future when it comes to LeBron James, just appreciate the present," Paul told Charania (2:35 mark). Of course, James has a few important decisions to make within the next year. The first is whether or not he wants to keep playing at all beyond the 2025-26 season, and the other is where he will spend the 2026-27 season if he does play. James exercised his player option for the upcoming season, meaning he's contractually tied to Los Angeles for another year, but after that, he'll be a free agent. Charania noted that James will continue to think about whether he fits into...

NBA Insiders Question If LeBron James 'Knows Where He's At' on Retirement Timeline

ESPN's Dave McMenamin is not convinced Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James knows yet whether the 2025-26 season will be his last in the NBA. "I've spoken to countless people close to LeBron over the summer... And most of them are telling me I think we're pretty close to the end, but I don't know if LeBron knows where he's at," McMenamin said at the 6:30 mark of Friday's episode of NBA Today. "Does he know that this is, from Day 1, going to be the last year? Will he start to feel it? Will he start to feel otherwise, and say, 'This is a really good Lakers team, and maybe we can do something special and extend it.' "One person close to him told me at one point: if the Lakers win, is he going to walk away from the chance to defend it, and get six rings versus five?" McMenamin's comments come the day after James said on a Thursday episode of Complex's 360 With Speedy that he is "definitely gearing up to...

LeBron James Dragged Into Streameast Shutdown After Allegedly Checking Out the Illegal Platform

Los Angeles Lakers basketball icon LeBron James has been caught up in the shutdown of one of the world's most notorious streaming piracy platforms. Streameast — the globe's biggest illegal sports streaming platform — was shuttered in August as the result of a yearlong international probe by Egyptian law enforcement officials, according to the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a coalition of 50 media and entertainment organizations including Amazon, Apple TV+, Netflix and Paramount, per The Athletic . Advertisement Stunningly, ACE reported that the monster site was visited more than 1.6 billion times in the last year alone. The Org "Dismantling Streameast is a major victory for everyone who invests in and relies on the live sports ecosystem," says Ed McCarthy, COO of DAZN Group. "This criminal operation was siphoning value from sports at every level and putting fans across the world at risk." Site traffic reportedly averaged 136 million ...

LeBron James claims he didn’t lie about predicting Kobe Bryant’s legendary 81-point game

LeBron James is the NBA GOAT for a lot of basketball fans, but that doesn't mean the King is without his faults. One of the things he gets regularly called out on social media for is seemingly lying or embellishing his stories to appear cool. This is one of the most hilarious running gags in basketball. James has addressed other things of this nature in the past, including when he responded to allegations that he never actually reads the books he's seen holding in public. And he's now spoken about the lying allegations in good faith, albeit defending one of his claims that fans like to call out. RELATED: Warriors, Lakers preparing to pursue two NBA MVPs in 2027 free agency "Every time I say something, everybody thinks it's a lie," James said. "I got homies that were at the house with me when Kobe was dropping 81. When he got 60, I'm watching the game like 'Oh sh*t, he might go for 80 tonight.' "I got homies that were in ...

Lakers' LeBron James Dishes on Viral Videos, Addresses Lying Memes

LeBron James is known for many things on and off the basketball court, but one that really stands out is his knack for saying things that may not be totally truthful. In an appearance on 360 with Speedy (starts at 9:15 mark), James defended himself from the accusations that he likes to finesse the truth a little bit when Speedy Morman specifically brought up the time he claimed to have said Kobe Bryant was going to score 70 prior to his famous 81-point outing on Jan. 22, 2006. James continued to insist he called Bryant's big night, explaining to Morman he told his friends who were with him watching that when Bryant go to 70 he was going to get 80. Later in the interview (starts at 11:15 mark), James addressed some of the memes and comments that have popped up over the years about some of his most infamous moments. The first one was when he wished Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis a Happy International Women's Day. James explained that was just "the first ...

ESPN's Brian Windhorst gives head-scratching update for Lakers' LeBron James retirement

ESPN's Brian Windhorst gives head-scratching update for Lakers' LeBron James retirement originally appeared on The Sporting News The Los Angeles Lakers could be entering the final year of the LeBron James era. With a lot riding on this upcoming season — including the possibility of retir ement, the hunger for one last championship run, and the hope of ending on a high note — many believe this could very well be the end. Advertisement "He's been the GOAT for so long. He's maintained the stats. We appreciate what he brought to the game and how he's held the mantle since (Michael) Jordan left. Bron is one of them ones. We appreciate him, but I think his time is up. We appreciate what he's done for the league," former Celtic Paul Pierce said. If this is indeed James' last ride, he wants to win a championship before he goes — or at the very least, compete for one. "LeBron wants to compete for a championship," Rich Paul told ESPN. "...

Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb Has Talked to LeBron James, Tom Brady About Championship Mindset

If you're an athlete trying to get over the hump when it comes to winning a championship, there aren't many better current or former players to speak with than Tom Brady and LeBron James. Appearing on Kevin Hart's Cold as Balls YouTube Show (starts at 5:50 mark), Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb said Brady and James are among the athletes he has spoken to about having a championship mindset and maintaining a competitive advantage no matter the circumstances. Brady is the most accomplished player in NFL history with seven Super Bowl titles. Even in the years when his teams didn't win a title, they were almost always on the doorstep. He played in the conference championship game 14 times in 23 seasons. James has played in the NBA Finals 10 times in 22 seasons so far, winning four times. He's also maintained a high level of play more than two decades into his career, having made the All-NBA team in each of the past 21 seasons. Even though t...

LeBron James' basketball future beyond Lakers' upcoming season could have long runway, intel suggests

LeBron James will have a career in professional basketball as long as he wants it. From a playing standpoint, James will have to be up for the challenge of staying in shape, and if that's the case his future could have a long runway, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst. There's been radio silence from James and agent Rich Paul since the four-time NBA Finals MVP  picked up his $52.6 million player option to remain with the Lakers for an eighth season in July. James opted not to clear the air amid franchise rumors and declined an on-camera interview during summer league a few weeks after that and has been mum on the upcoming campaign since. For the first time in his career, James will take the court for training camp later this month without a player option or a contract for the following season. It's likely James will enter unrestricted free agency next summer since he's not eligible to extend his current deal and has a no-trade clause within it. The L...

'I’m Not A Golfer': Savannah James Stuns With Powerful Swing As She Playfully One-Ups LeBron James

Many might know LeBron James ' wife, Savannah James, as an entrepreneur, but not many are away of her ability to play golf.  Savannah has always been around athletes. Her husband and sons are athletes and LeBron is undoubtedly one of the best NBA stars ever. After being around a house full of athletes, it's normal for Savannah to pick up a sport. While she's not showcased her skill much, recently, Savannah James shared a video on social media where she was showing off her impressive golf swing. LeBron James has more time on the court and he's expected to play one more season with the Los Angeles Lakers before retiring. While he's not addressed the rumors about retirement, James already started swinging a golf club. Many speculate that he'll take up to the sport after his retirement. LeBro...

LeBron James on why he worried Bronny might not make it home if stopped by police in 2016: "It's a scary thought right now"

Back in 2016, during a Cleveland Cavaliers media day, LeBron James opened up about the fears of raising three children in today's society, especially his oldest, Bronny. At 12, Bronny was first in line among the James kids, with Bryce and Zhuri, to start working toward his driver's license. For his NBA superstar dad, it was a frightening thought, not because he doubted his son's potential skills behind the wheel. "I look at my son (Bronny) being four years removed from driving his own car and being able to leave the house on his own, and it's a scary thought right now to think if my son gets pulled over," admitted James, per ESPN. Bron was grappling with fears James has been under media scrutiny since his teenage years and faced countless high-pressure moments on the hardwood. Despite that, he has risen to global stardom, living a life many can only dream of. Yet even with all that success, the basketball icon has fears — some beyond anyone's ...

Dwight Howard Jokes That LeBron James Needs Another 20-Year Career to Surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

LeBron James and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's names usually come up together when debating a combination of longevity and legacy in the NBA. The two legends are not exactly on the best of terms, and after Dwight Howard's Hall of Fame speech, there may be a little more fuel added to the fire. On stage, Howard confidently declared Abdul-Jabbar the GOAT. The only problem was that James was in attendance. He did not react much, but the cameras quickly cut to him as he was seen gently stroking his beard. Naturally, the moment came up during a recent episode of Howard's podcast, Above the Rim with DH12, where the former Los Angeles Laker insisted he did not mean it as a slight toward The King. Still, he could not resist making a sly remark about what James would need to do to reach Kareem's level. "I would say LeBron is the GOAT, now, if he changes his name like Kareem did in college, like Kareem did, and play another 20 years, I say, you're the GOAT," Ho...

"We both think we should have more rings" - LeBron James on how he and Kevin Durant impacted each other's legacies

LeBron James and Kevin Durant are still the talk of the NBA town. Well into their careers, the two superstars continue to dominate individually despite their respective teams' lack of success, years after their head-to-head was a guaranteed sighting in the NBA Finals. The two met 43 times throughout their iconic NBA careers. James won 24 of those games, Durant won 19. Still, the latter holds a 9-5 head-to-head playoff record and is 2-1 in the NBA Finals against James. Advertisement Despite their on-court rivalry, James and Durant have always held each other in high regard — this was esp ecially noticeable during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris when the two former MVPs were standing on the same side rather than competing against each other. Nonetheless, James acknowledged that he and Durant created hurdles for each other throughout their basketball journeys. "We both think we should have more rings, but don't because of each other," he said . Clashing in the N...

Lakers Icon Magic Johnson Names Michael Jordan NBA GOAT over LeBron James in New Video

Magic Johnson has given many takes over the years, but one that has never really wavered is his belief that Michael Jordan is the greatest player in NBA history. Appearing at the Invest Fest in Atlanta, the Los Angeles Lakers legend picked Jordan over LeBron James as the NBA's best player because "there's nobody alive" who could do the things that Jordan did. Even though James has played for the Lakers since the 2018-19 season, Johnson hasn't been swayed by the power of the purple and gold when picking the best player in NBA history. During a 2023 appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Johnson said James might need to win "a couple more championships" to potentially surpass Jordan in his estimation. Within the same quote, though, Johnson praised James for what he has done on the court over the course of his career. "LeBron is special too in his own right too, and people shouldn't forget that either, but when it's all s...

"I don't think there's a question who the greatest player would be" - Tracy McGrady says LeBron James playing in a triangle offense would make him a GOAT over Michael Jordan

The majority consider LeBron James to be second in the greatest player of all-time discussion, behind Michael Jordan, who went 6-0 in the NBA Finals, won six Finals MVP awards, five regular season MVPs, one DPOY trophy and 10 scoring titles. However, Tracy McGrady believes that if LeBron grew up playing with the triangle system that gave Jordan the success he achieved in Chicago, King James would have grown his game to the point that the GOAT would not even be a debate. Advertisement "If Bron got introduced to the triangle at an early age, Bron would have expanded his game tremendously," explained McGrady. "We probably would be seeing he's not as fast or uber athletic like he once was. But if we take Bron who he is now, with the athleticism, speed and everything, agility and put him in that triangle, learning it, I don't think there's any question who the greatest player would be." LeBron never had a system because he is the system According to Mc...

Lakers’ LeBron James’ article for Communist outlet starts firestorm. But did he write it?

LeBron James did not pen a controversial essay in China's state-run People's Daily newspaper, according to a report from The Athletic. Reuters reported James' essay could mean the NBA's "years-long row with Beijing could be coming to an end." Via The Athletic: Despite James' name being attached to the story, two sources close to James confirmed that he did not submit an essay to People's Daily. Instead, he conducted group interviews with reporters in the two cities he visited. Those sources stated that the words attributed to James in the article were accurate, but they were not exclusive to any news ou...

This article has been updated with new information. BEIJING — Akron native LeBron James has become the first NBA player to have an article in the China's state-run People's Daily newspaper citing him as the author, an unusual move suggesting the top-flight North American basketball league's years-long row with Beijing could be coming to an end. Advertisement James was interviewed in a group setting and the article was then compiled by a journalist from the Chinese outlet but not written by him, according to a story broken by The Athletic and confirmed by a source close to the NBA star. The NBA enjoyed decades of fast growth in China, where some 300 million play the game, ballooning into a business said to be worth more than $4 billion. The league was one of the most popular U.S. cultural exports to the country until 2019 when Highland High School graduate Daryl Morey, then general manager of the Houston Rockets team, sent a tweet in support of anti-government protesters...

LeBron James did not write essay published in Chinese state media: Reports

American basketball star LeBron James did not write an essay in a Chinese state media outlet that was attributed to him, The Athletic reported. Advertisement It was widely reported in international media that James was the first NBA player to write an essay for Chinese state media, sparking some criticism of the Los Angeles Lakers forward. But sources close to James told The Athletic that he conducted group interviews with reporters during his trip to Shanghai and Chengdu, and those were compiled and printed in People's Daily. LeBron James Makes History After New Reports On Lakers Future

Perhaps the biggest guarantee in the NBA is that LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers will be in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame when his career ends. There have been rumors about his future and a potential retirement, but James remains a member of the Lakers, set to be a free agent in the summer of 2026. However, despite still being an active player, James, along with Chris Paul , became the only two active players in the NBA to be in the Hall of Fame. They were inducted because of their play on the 2008 Olympic Team USA gold medal-winning squad, nicknamed the 'Redeem Team', which was inducted into the Hall of Fame .  Following the induction ceremony, James was quick to flex his Hall of Fame jacket on social media.  "We In The Hall Baby!!!!! Ayyyyyyeeee 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾👑," James wrote on Instagram.  LeBron James In The Hall Of Fame The entire player roster and coaching staff of the 2008 Olympic men's basketball team were i...
