A King James Version of Dog of the Day - New York Times (blog)

Bronnie06Gersh Kuntzman LeBron James â€" aka Bronnie â€" is playful, affectionate and loves basketball.

Basketball legend LeBron James famously snubbed the Brooklyn-bound Nets, but his namesake Cocker Spaniel loves the borough.

LeBron James, 2, is playful and social as he carouses with his fellow pups every morning in Fort Greene Park with his human companion Stephanie Smith. He bounds over whenever he sees anyone on wheels, whether it is a bicycle or skateboard.

Bronnie crop Stephanie Smith calls the dog “Bronnie” to avoid basketball arguments.

“He has a wheel fixation,” said Ms. Smith, who is caring for the dog while her son, basketball hopeful A.J. West, who named the dog, is working on his jumper at Broward College in Florida.

Ms. Smith prefers to call the dog “Bronnie,” lest she get into deep discussions about why the Miami Heat star has not made good on his promise to be the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double â€" double-digit points, assists and rebounds â€" over the entire season.

“My son loves LeBron James â€" both of them,” Ms. Smith said.
