LeBron James on Wednesday declined to fire back after Reggie Miller questioned him for reaching out to Hall of Fame players last summer, including Hakeem Olajuwon (who helped James with his post game), Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas.
âThis is one of the most physically gifted guys in our league,â Miller said on TNT. âHe left Cleveland, and he had every right to join one of the top five players in the league in Dwyane Wade along with Chris Bosh.
âNow heâs reaching out to Hall of Famers to see what it takes to win? Enough is enough. Go out and actually do it on your own. What do you need more help for?â
James said he wasnât aware of Millerâs comment, but that âitâs good to have perspective from someone elseâs point of viewâ about the playoffs, âtheir championship runs, their playing days in general.â
Asked if heâs âgoodâ with Miller â" who will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in September â" James said, âIâm good with my family and teammates. Thatâs all that matters to me.â
THIS AND THAT
The Heat believes itâs over its regular-season problems on the road. Miami was 28-5 at home but 18-15 on the road, after going 28-13 on the road last season.
â¢Â James finished fourth in balloting for Defensive Player of the Year, behind winner Tyson Chandler, Oklahoma Cityâs Serge Ibaka and Orlandoâs Dwight Howard. James received seven first-place votes. Dwyane Wade got one third-place vote.
â¢Â As noted in Wednesdayâs Miami Herald, James outperformed several other elite players by shooting 45 percent (29 for 64) in âclutchâ moments this season, using the NBAâs description: final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime with a margin of five or less.
How did other Heat players do in that spot? Wade shot 42 percent (19 for 45); Bosh, 55 (22 for 40); Norris Cole, 43(3 for 7); Mario Chalmers, 36â(9 for 25); Shane Battier, 14â(1 for 7); Mike Miller, 25â(1 for 4). James Jones was 1 for 1.
Knicks guard Jeremy Lin, out since April 2 knee surgery, will miss Game 3, and his status beyond that is uncertain, coach Mike Woodson said.
