LeBron James has always been one to respect his elders (just not Clevelanders).
So when he was asked about the 1992 Dream Team in a recent interview, James expressed his gratitude for a team made up of Michael Jordan and 10 other Hall of Famers.
"The '92 Dream Team paved the way for all of us," James said to ABC News "Nightline" anchor Cynthia McFadden in an interview before the Olympics. "We understand what they did for our game."
Then, James dropped a bomb and sided with U.S. teammate Kobe Bryant.
"We are also are big-time competitors as well, so if we got the opportunity to play them in a game we feel like we would win, too," said James, who was taking in the Olympic ceremonies on Friday with his teammates.
"As a competitor you never want to say that you will lose, no matter who you are going against."
Earlier this summer, Kobe Bryant said of the 2012 Team USA's chances of beating perhaps the best team ever: "It would be a tough one, but I think we would pull it out. People who think we can't beat that team for one game, they are crazy. To sit there and say we can't, it's ludicrous. We can beat them one time."
A laughing Jordan strongly disagreed with those comments.
"For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done," Jordan said.
