Before last season began, the Miami Heat was dubbed the villains of the NBA. Ever since Heat president was able to make the moves to sign LeBron James, Chris Bosh and re-sign Dwyane Wade, everyone around the country that didn’t live in South Beach had it out for the league’s newest Big 3.
After losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, the consensus was that the new Big 3 in Miami was extremely talented and near unstoppable, but might not be able to get over the hump. A year, LeBron and company proved everyone wrong and basically shut everyone up by winning the first of potentially many more NBA championships in Miami.
Now that LeBron has finally won a ring to go along with two gold medals and three NBA MVP awards, the comparisons to Michael Jordan are coming much more frequently. There’s no question that Jordan has accomplished much more than LeBron and the superstar still has to reach Kobe Bryant status before reaching for the six-time NBA champion, but once again the comparisons continue.
Apparently, one of LeBron’s teammates isn’t ready to give him the comparison to Jordan. Wade came out recently to say that LeBron still has a ways to go before he can legitimately be compared to the greatest player that has ever played the game.
Even though LeBron has improved by leaps and bounds over the past year or so, I’d have to agree with D-Wade here. There’s no doubting LeBron’s talent, potential and future filled with more accolades accomplished, but he’s still very pale in comparison to Jordan and everything he accomplished during his time with the Chicago Bulls.
With many more years ahead for King James, it’s very possible that LeBron could match or surpass Jordan in a few categories, but in terms of greatest of all-time there’s still no comparison.
