Two games, two easy wins.
It's all gone according to plan for Lebron James and Co. at the 2012 London Olympics, with Team USA riding its superior athleticism and depth to a place atop Group A.
Up next is Nigeria, which opened the tournament with a win over Tunisia before falling to Lithuania in its second game.
James, who won this year's Most Valuable Player award with Miami, has just 14 points in two games. Instead of scoring, he has played the role of facilitator and leads the team in assists with 12.
The Nigerians are led by a pair of players with NBA experience under their belts in forward/center Ike Diogu and Al-Farouq Aminu of the New Orleans Hornets.
But while the Nigerians' scoring has stemmed mostly from two or three options, the United States has spread the ball around beautifully thus far. Only two players are averaging 15 points or more for Team USA, but 10 players are averaging six points or more.
After Nigeria, the United States has games against Lithuania and Argentina to close out pool play. Argentina is in second place behind the U.S. in Group A, while Lithuania is in third place.
Women's volleyball rolls
Much like the men's basketball team, the U.S. women's volleyball team continues to barrel through the group stage unscathed.
Wednesday's victim was China, who entered the match undefeated just like the United States, but left handily beaten.
Once again former St. Thomas Aquinas star Foluke Akinradewo played an integral part of the 26-24, 25-16, 31-29 win. Akinradewo had eight spikes and tied for the team high with seven blocks.
The win over the Chinese basically ensures the United States will finish pool play as the top team in Group B. The U.S. has two matches left against Serbia on Friday and Turkey on Sunday, two teams that have combined for just one win six matches.
Serena in, Venus out of singles
Serena Williams stands alone as the only South Florida singles player left in the Olympic tennis competition after her sister, Venus Williams, was defeated in the third round on Wednesday.
Venus Williams fell to Germany's Angelique Kerber 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5) in a hard-fought match after struggling with her first serve. She landed just 58 percent of her first serves compared to 73 percent for Kerber.
It was, perhaps, a bit of payback for Kerber who was part of a doubles duo eliminated by the Williams sisters earlier in the week.
Serena Williams, though, continued her strong play by breezing into the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Russia's Vera Zvonareva behind a 12-0 advantage in aces.
Serena Williams notched 32 winners compared to Zvonareva's three in a match that lasted 51 minutes.
On Thursday, Serena Williams will take on Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki in the quarterfinals.
Serena and Venus Williams' doubles match against the Italian duo of Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci was postponed.
