After a phenomenal year in which he won his third MVP award, a finals MVP and a gold medal; it seems as though the media is singing his praises again. LeBron James has seemed to finally put behind the backlash he experienced after the âDecisionâ. He is now basking in the glory of being the only player since Michael Jordan to win the Triple Crown: an NBA MVP award, a Finals MVP and a gold medal in the same season.
People say that winning forgives everything. It seems as though that should prove to be right in the case of LeBron. This time last year, LeBron was still feeling the stings of an NBA Championship loss to the Dallas Mavericks. The entire NBA fanbase seemed to enjoy the Miami Heatâs failure as almost all fans cheered for the underdog Dallas. Now, two years after the decision, LeBron can finally breathe easy as he has finally taken the monkey off his back. The media seems to have put him back in the discussion for the greatest player of all time and his dominance in the playoffs was one for the ages.
But is he fully redeemed though? Part of me still thinks that LeBronâs championship win was a little bit of a letdown as he had Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh as his teammates. Part of me is still in awe though, as he dismantled the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Finals with relative ease. LeBron is certainly a different kind of animal, and he will definitely win multiple championships before he can call it a career. He is still entering the prime of his career and is destined for greatness.
But for now, winning his first championship hasnât fully redeemed him in my eyes. The Heatâs arrogance two years ago when they had the celebration and the promise of âNot 1, not 2, not 3â¦â still rings in my mind. The only way he can fully redeem himself is to win yet another title and another and another, and hopefully sooner rather than later.
