Miami Heat set to work out big man Josh Harrellson - Examiner.com

The Miami Heat have refused to rest after winning last season's championship, and the team plans to bring in another frontcourt player this week for a workout.

Josh Harrellson, who played last season for the New York Knicks, tweeted Monday that he is heading to Miami for a workout. ESPN reported that it will be Harrellson's second workout for the Heat and the first to be watched by Pat Riley.

Harrellson, a 6-foot-10, 275-lbs. center, was drafted out of Kentucky in the second round of the 2011 draft. As a rookie for the Knicks, the big man showed a knack for hitting the glass and playing sound basketball on both ends of the floor. He was traded to the Rockets this summer, but Houston released him.

An intriguing aspect of Harrellson's game that could have positive ramifications for LeBron James is the center's ability to step out on the perimeter. Harrellson flashed a nice stroke from long-range, connecting on 20 three-pointers in just 37 games. Miami has shown its desire to surround James with shooters, and getting that skill from a center could be the added bonus that earns Harrellson a roster spot with the Heat.

Miami has already signed Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis this offseason. Allen is the all-time leader in three-pointers made while Lewis ranks 8th.
