How LeBron James ended up investing in a tequila company

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Spanish actor and documentarian Diego Osorio decided to pivot from the world of acting to that of distilling tequila, launching his own spirit brand inspired by the story of his namesake and great-grandfather's immigration from Spain to Mexico. But because of pandemic-era social distancing restrictions that forced bars to shutter their doors and grocery stores to pause customer tasting booths, Osorio struggled to land his new product, called Lobos 1707 , on shelves. Then one day, he received an unexpected call from an NBA legend looking to invest in the company: LeBron James. "I get a call from an Ohio number. I picked up, and he goes, 'Hey Diego, I'm LeBron James,'" Osorio said. "He's like, 'Hey, I hear you're doing this ... Is [the tequila] any good?'" Soon after, James became Osorio's first investor, and several other famous faces — like Maverick Carter, Draymond Green and Arnold Sch...

Anthony Davis Says 'Nothing Has Changed' in Relationship with LeBron James After Trade

Anthony Davis' surprising trade to the Dallas Mavericks didn't affect his bond with Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James. "He texts me all the time," Davis told Andscape's Marc J. Spears . "[James' chief of staff] Randy [Mims] hit me. Actually, they both just hit me. Vando [Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt] did. We still talk to those guys. I've been with [James] the longest, six-and-a-half years. We've been really close, but nothing has changed." Davis and James were teammates in Los Angeles from 2019 until he was included in the blockbuster trade that resulted in superstar forward Luka Dončić heading to the Lakers on Feb. 2. Dallas also received Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick. ESPN's  Shams Charania  reported that James and Davis both had "no idea" that the trade was occurring until it was finalized. The NBA's all-time leading scorer revealed that the first thing he did after news o...

Brian Windhorst Says He Owes LeBron James 'A Lot' Despite Lakers Star's Comments

ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst said he owes fellow Akron, Ohio, native LeBron James "a lot" despite recent criticism from the Los Angeles Lakers star. "LeBron doesn't owe me anything. I owe him a lot," Windhorst said in a Thursday appearance on ESPN Cleveland. "He has been a great friend to my hometown, and my alma mater. That I would stand on. Anything else, I would never say, or never stand on. "I met LeBron 25 years ago. And my understanding of LeBron, and where people stand in his life, has been crystal clear for a long time." James originally called out the ESPN reporter during a Wednesday appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. "I've seen Brian Windhorst on one of these shows not too long ago. This guy says he's like my f--king best friend," James said around the 50:40 mark. James went on to say Windhorst had inaccurately reported he signed with Nike because of Michael Jordan. "No the f--k I didn...

A Brief History of Stephen A. Smith, Talking Heads Taking Shots at LeBron James

LeBron James has been in the public eye for most of his life, and rightfully so. He's one of the rare, super-hyped talents who has somehow exceeded all expectations, and he's undeniably on the shortest of short lists when it comes to the NBA's Greatest Of All Time. With all that time in the limelight, though, comes intense scrutiny. No one's perfect, and James has dealt with plenty of valid criticisms over the years ("The Decision," anyone?). That just comes with the territory. "I've never seen so many people be so happy to see an athlete fail more than LeBron," Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards wrote in an Instagram story in 2021. "His whole career he's been hated on constantly and slandered to no end to the point where when he retires nobody would have appreciated his greatness. I'm glad I will be one who did." That said, some critiques James has faced haven't felt quite so constructive....

Brian Windhorst Responds to LeBron James' Viral Comment to Pat McAfee About NBA Media

After Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James called out the media's coverage of the NBA, a longtime reporter is responding. James said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday that he started the Mind the Game podcast last year because he was displeased with the state of the NBA media. ESPN's Brian Windhorst said during Thursday's episode of First Take that while he understood James' perspective, he believes it's not as one-sided as the 40-year-old perceives it to be. "I think there are times when the media is out of balance, and I encourage NBA players to hold the media accountable when they can, as long as they're OK with being held accountable by the media," Windhorst said. "I think at times our big challenge in the game in the modern era is to find that balance. Let's not have 125 threes a game, but let's not ban the three-pointer. Let's have a balance." James announced the second season of the...

LeBron James on the Pat McAfee Show: Lakers star brings up NBA conspiracy, talks relationship with MJ and more

LeBron James appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday, and the NBA superstar discussed a wide array of topics. He announced the relaunch of his podcast "Mind the Game" -- which he'll co-host with Hall of Famer Steve Nash -- and touched on plenty of other subjects, ranging from playing alongside new superstar teammate Luka Dončić to his love of football. He even touched on the long-circulated rumor that he spends over $1 million on his body every year to stay in peak shape, to which he responded , "I don't know where the hell that s--- came from." It was a wide-ranging and lengthy interview ( you can watch the full interview here ), and LeBron was pretty open and honest in his responses, so here's a breakdown of some of the highlights. LeBron jokes about Giannis dominating in the '70s One of the silliest arguments that always surfaces today is comparing this current era of players to years past. The conversation usually goes one of two...

LeBron James Sends Bold Warning to Haters on Bronny

Gina Ferazzi / Los Angeles Times via Getty Images The proposed trade would send LeBron James and Bronny James to the Golden State Warriors Rookie Lakers guard Bronny James "is focused" on getting better, and his father, LeBron James , feels the sky is the limit as he improves. James sent the warning shot to the rest of the NBA after his first game back from a groin strain on March 22. James' Lakers lost to the Bulls , 146-115, but the NBA's all-time leading scorer was rusty after missing his team's previous seven games. "Yeah, he's grew up in it, so it's nothing new to him," James said of the scrutiny his son faces as an NBA pro. "I think you saw the article [ with The Athletic's Joe Vardon ] that came out that he did, that he wanted to do and express his feelings about everything." "But the kid is focused, and he locks in on his craft," James continued. "Like you said, he hears everything, and ...

Donald Trump added LeBron James to White House ban list along with Steph Curry before NBA final match

Donald Trump once added LeBron James to the White House's ban list. The US President has earned a reputation for making bold, controversial and at times bizarre statements at the lectern since entering the political arena in June 2015. And during his first time in office, in June 2018, Trump told reporters that he would not invite either the Cleveland Cavaliers or Golden State Warriors to visit the White House following the conclusion of that year's NBA Finals. Cavaliers forward James and Warriors guard Steph Curry had previously said their respective sides had no interest in the prospect of visiting the White House. "I didn't invite LeBron James , and I didn't invite Steph Curry. We're not going to invite either team," Trump told reporters. "But we have other teams that are coming. "If you look, we had Alabama — national champion. We had Clemson, national champion. We had the New England Patriots. We had the Pittsburgh Peng...

LeBron James return: Lakers blown out by Bulls, but Luka Dončić continues to cook for Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Lakers were fully healthy on Saturday night with Rui Hachimura and, more notably, LeBron James returning to action, but the Chicago Bulls spoiled the party with a 146-115 blowout that dropped the Lakers to the No. 3 to No. 4 seed with 12 games remaining.  The Lakers are tied in the loss column with the Nuggets , and are likely going to win the tiebreaker over Denver (2-2 head to head) by virtue of being a division winner (they are three games up on Golden State with the tiebreaker secured for the Pacific crown).  Hachimura (knee) hadn't played in almost a month, while James missed six games with a groin strain. The Lakers went 3-3 in those games without LeBron as the defense struggled, and that was the story again on Saturday as Chicago put up points like an All-Star game.  James was rusty in his return, finishing with 17 points on 16 shots with five turnovers. He missed three of his five free throws and was a game-low minus-27 in in 31 minutes.  ...

LeBron James, Rui Hachimura might return for Lakers’ game vs. Bulls

LOS ANGELES — Starting forwards LeBron James and Rui Hachimura could return for the Lakers' home game against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night. James and Hachimura were upgraded to questionable on the team's Friday evening injury report after missing the last several games. The 40-year-old James missed the previous seven games because of a strained left groin injury he suffered late in the March 8 road loss to the Boston Celtics . The four-time league MVP averaged 25 points (while shooting 51.7% from the field, 38.4% from 3-point range), 8.5 assists and 8.2 rebounds while playing 58 of 62 games before missing time with the groin ailment. James and Denver Nuggets reigning MVP Nikola Jokic are the only players in the NBA averaging at least 25 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Hachimura missed 10 consecutive games of left patellar tendinopathy. He hasn't played since the Feb. 27 home win against the Minnesota Timberwolves . Hachimura is averaging 13.3...

Lakers Rumors: Markieff Morris 'Beloved' by LeBron James, Luka Doncic, LA Locker Room

Markieff Morris' veteran presence will reportedly solidify his place on the roster through the remainder of this season. Jovan Buha of The Athletic said on the latest episode of Buha's Block (1 hour, 12 minute mark) that Morris is "too valuable within the locker room" to potentially be waived by the team and has a strong relationship with stars LeBron James and Luka Dončić. "Markieff Morris is a beloved figure in the locker room," Buha said. "He's an internal leader, Luka Loves him, LeBron loves him, they are not waiving 'Kieff.'" Morris was dealt to Los Angeles alongside Dončić in February. He has appeared in six games for the Lakers, making one start, and has averaged 5.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists. He also spent time with the franchise from 2019-2021 and won the 2020 NBA Championship with the Lakers. Morris, who turns 36 in September, is slated to be an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Laker...

Bronny James Applauded by NBA Fans Despite Lakers' Loss to Bucks with LeBron, Luka Out

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a lopsided defeat at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday despite Bronny James' big night, falling by the final score of 118-89. The Lakers were shorthanded entering the contest with LeBron James, Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura ruled out due to their respective injuries. A silver lining in the loss was the younger James, who wrapped up the best performance of his inaugural season in the NBA. James finished with a career-high 17 points, tied for the team lead. He added five assists, three rebounds and one block while shooting 7-of-10 from the field in 30 minutes on the floor. James also connected on two of his four attempts from behind the arc. Fans were impressed with the rookie. The Lakers struggled offensively without their stars, shooting just 41.5 percent from the field as a team and committing 22 turnovers. They were also unable to stop Giannis Antetokounmpo, who scored 28 points in 29 minutes ...
