Markieff Morris' veteran presence will reportedly solidify his place on the roster through the remainder of this season.
Jovan Buha of The Athletic said on the latest episode of Buha's Block (1 hour, 12 minute mark) that Morris is "too valuable within the locker room" to potentially be waived by the team and has a strong relationship with stars LeBron James and Luka Dončić.
"Markieff Morris is a beloved figure in the locker room," Buha said. "He's an internal leader, Luka Loves him, LeBron loves him, they are not waiving 'Kieff.'"
Morris was dealt to Los Angeles alongside Dončić in February. He has appeared in six games for the Lakers, making one start, and has averaged 5.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists. He also spent time with the franchise from 2019-2021 and won the 2020 NBA Championship with the Lakers.
Morris, who turns 36 in September, is slated to be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
The Lakers are currently 43-26, good for fourth in the Western Conference. They'll be back in action Saturday night against the Chicago Bulls after losing to the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday.
