While the Los Angeles Lakers get ready to play in Denver, LeBron James is reportedly headed to Sacramento.
NBA insider Chris Haynes reported that James, who is away from the Lakers amid his recovery from a groin strain, is traveling to watch his son Bryce James play in Sierra Canyon's state title game.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Wednesday that James had left the Lakers' road trip and returned to Los Angeles "per medical recommendation."
The Lakers, who have lost three straight away games, will play the Nuggets on Friday night at 9:30 p.m. ET.
Sierra Canyon advanced to the state title game after emerging victorious from the Southern California regional final with a 74-68 win over Redondo. James contributed three points in Tuesday's victory.
The victory marked Sierra Canyon's first regional title since future No. 55 pick Bronny James played for the Trailblazers in 2020, as noted by Steve Galluzzo of the Los Angeles Times.
Sierra Canyon is now set to face Lincoln of Stockton, California, for the boys' state title Friday night.
LeBron James has not played with the Lakers since March 8, when he suffered the groin injury during a loss to the Boston Celtics.
Charania originally reported James was expected to miss "at least one to two weeks" with the injury.
James' injury has further tested the depth of a Lakers team now missing four starters with Luka Dončić, Rui Hachimura and Jaxson Hayes also sidelined.
According to Haynes, James traveled to Sacramento after completing all of Friday's medical treatment.
"The Lakers support this. I'm told the Lakers honor his support of his son and his family, and they view this championship as being a huge moment that he can't miss," Haynes said.
Bryce James announced in a January Instagram post that he was committed to join the University of Arizona as a member of the Class of 2025. He also held offers from Ohio State and Duquesne, per On3.
