After losing their first three matchups against the Los Angeles Lakers this year, the Golden State Warriors finally got a win over their in-state rival in the final matchup of the season between the two teams.
The Warriors left Los Angeles with a 123-116 win on Thursday.
The matchup between Stephen Curry and LeBron James has been one of the best rivalries in the NBA over the last decade, and it's just as good now that the two are in the late stages of their career. Ultimately, Curry won the battle this time.
He led the Warriors with 37 points, most of those coming in the second half. He did a tremendous job of being aggressive and finding his way to the line to make 13 of his 14 free throws.
James had an outstanding performance of his own, posting 33 points, nine assists and five boards. Luka Dončić had a quiet night compared to the other stars on the court but still finished with 19 points, seven assists and eight boards. Austin Reaves did his best to put the Lakers in a position to win, posting 31 points, but Los Angeles ultimately didn't have enough to get past Curry and the Warriors.
After the win for Golden State, fans had high praise for another phenomenal outing for Curry.
The Western Conference playoff race is getting interesting with the regular season nearing an end. With Thursday's win, the Warriors improved to 45-31 and are separating themselves from the play-in tournament. They're in sixth place in the West, just a game and a half behind the Denver Nuggets. The Lakers fell to 46-30 but are still in third place in the West.
After the battle we saw on Thursday, fans likely wouldn't complain if Golden State and Los Angeles met up again in the postseason.
