Lakers' LeBron James Has Nerve Issue, Reportedly Will Be 'Overly Cautious' at Practice

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is dealing with nerve irritation in his glute, which caused him to be held out of Tuesday's practice, according to head coach JJ Redick:

ESPN's Dave McMenamin previously reported that James plans to be "overly cautious" when it comes to his health during the 2025-26 season.

To that end, McMenamin reported Tuesday on NBA Today that James "will be limited in his on-court participation" when the Lakers have their first practice.

As it turns out, James was held out on Tuesday.

Despite being the oldest active player in the NBA, LeBron has continued to show remarkable durability. He has played at least 70 games in each of the past two seasons.

James did suffer a sprained MCL in the Lakers' season-ending loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series last season. The injury occurred midway through the fourth quarter, and he briefly went to the bench before returning for most of the final seven minutes.

On the May 20 episode of the Mind the Game podcast he does with Steve Nash, James said his knee was feeling "a hell of a lot better." He didn't have to underg o any surgery to repair the issue.

James also noted that it was the first knee injury he suffered in his 22-year career. The four-time MVP will turn 41 in December, which will make him just the 11th player in history to appear in a game at 41 years of age or older.

The 2025-26 season is poised to be a big one for the Lakers. Luka Dončić will be there from the start of the year, so they don't have to worry about continuing to integrate his style of play into their offense.

James will be an integral piece for the Lakers in their quest to have a deep playoff run as long as he can stay healthy. He averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game in 70 starts during his age-40 season in the 2024-25 campaign.
