LeBron James Opens Up About Parenting With Wife Savannah, How Raising A Child Was Different For Them

LeBron James Opens Up About Parenting With Wife Savannah, How Raising A Child Was Different For Them

LeBron James is an American basketball player who is the NBA's all-time leading scorer. His stellar performances on the basketball court earned him a nickname, 'King James'. He has won four NBA championships and three Olympic gold medals.

Coming to his personal life, LeBron is married to Savannah James. The couple has been together since children before tying the knot in 2013. The duo are now proud parents to three children. In a recent podcast, the NBA star opened up about how different it was for him and his wife to become parents at a young age.

LeBron James opens up about his experience with his wife, Savannah, as young parents

In a recent episode of Dear Media's Everybody's Crazy podcast, LeBron James opened up about his relationship with his wife, Savannah James, and how it was for them to become parents at a young age. The 40-year-old NBA legend shared his personal experience on how their lives changed when they welcomed their first child, a son, Bronny James, in 2004. The podcast was co-hosted by Savannah and April McDaniel. In a clip shared to People ahead of the podcast's release on October 14, 2005, LeBron said:

"As far as a relationship, I think having a baby at a young age and us moving in together ... was different for me."

Explaining the difference in their background, LeBron mentioned in the podcast that his wife grew up in a traditional family with both parents and four siblings. In contrast, he was raised by his single mother, Gloria James and surrounded by his uncles and friends coming and going. This major contract made his early life very different from Savannah's stable and structured family environment. So, when it was time for him to settle down, there was a significant shift in both his mindset and lifestyle. He was quoted as saying:

"My wife comes from a two-parent household and siblings in the house. I don't come from that. It was my mom, my uncles, and then just friends and girls and guys coming in, you know? S—, that's what I grew up on. So, me settling down and deciding that she's going to be the one that's in the house, giving her the key or the garage door code, that s— was different, bro."

LeBron James and Savannah James' love story

LeBron James and Savannah James' love story began when the duo studied in rival high schools in Akron, Ohio. LeBron was a junior and was already making his name in basketball, while Savannah was a second-year student. The couple's first date at Outback Steakhouse was simple yet special, marking a beautiful start of their long-lasting relationship. Savannah, once in an interview with Harper's Bazaar, shared that LeBron first invited her to one of his basketball games, and she said 'yes'.

Their love story wasn't very easy. In 2004, while Savannah was still in high school, she found out that she was pregnant with their first child, a son named Bronny. Meanwhile, LeBron had entered the NBA, but instead of worrying, he promised to support her completely. Over the years, the couple welcomed two more children, Bryce and Zhuri, and tied the knot in 2013. Now married for over a decade, LeBron admits their relationship isn't 'picture perfect' in a recent episode of Speedy Morman's 360 with Speedy podcast.
