NBA superstar LeBron James didn't have his trusted best friend and agent, Rich Paul, around to stop Hollywood star and die-hard New York Knicks fan Timothee Chalamet from explaining why King James should join his team before retiring.

James found himself sitting in the center of an awkward moment on his own show when Chalamet openly campaigned for the NBA legend to finish his care er with the Knicks.

The box office actor appeared on a special episode of the Mind the Game podcast recorded in Hollywood last week with James and co-host Steve Nash while promoting his hit film Marty Supreme. Chalamet started by proudly revealing a rare piece of Knicks memorabilia while discussing the franchise's playoff hopes.

This year's Knicks have a 41-24 record with 17 games left in the season, and hold the third seed in the Eastern Conference.

"Feeling very good about the Knicks, you know," Chalamet said. He then unbuttoned his flannel shirt to reveal a vintage 1995 NBA Playoffs VIP Knicks T-shirt.

"Let's get this Knicks T-shirt out, you know what I mean?" The shirt referenced one o f the most memorable seasons in Knicks history, and their first of four straight Eastern Conference Finals losses.

The 1995-96 Knicks finished the regular season 55-27 and entered the playoffs as the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference before falling in a heartbreaking seven-game series against the Indiana Pacers in the conference semifinals.

That postseason included Reggie Miller's infamous choke sign to Spike Lee to ignite the Pacers-Knicks rivalry as he scored eight points in 8.9 seconds in a comeback, and Patrick Ewing's missed finger-roll layup in Game 7 at Madison Square Garden.

"I don't want to interfere with any tampering rules or anything," Chalamet joked. "I know there's a prize free age nt next summer, possibly sitting on my right." James immediately lowered his head and buried his face in his hat while smiling as the crowd laughed.

Chalamet continued pushing the idea even further. "It might not be your last year, but if it is a farewell tour in a New York Knicks uniform... oh my God, that would be unbelievable," he said. "Win a ring for the King. Come on," he continued. "Let's get LeBron in New York. Start the petition. Let's go."

Nash then pressed James to answer the actor, after showing astonishment at the question. The Los Angeles Lakers star declined to engage publicly and said, "We'll talk backstage."

The four-time NBA champion exercised his $52.6 million player option to remain with the Lakers for the 2025-26 season but is expected to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026 at age 42. James admitted in January that he never expected to still be playing in 2026.

James recently hit his elbow during a hard drive to the lane against the Denver Nuggets, which caused him to miss the Lakers' wins over the Pacers and a 110-97 victory against the Knicks on Sunday.
