LeBron James rallies Lakers from 21 down in the fourth to stun the Clippers

LeBron James’ tongue wagged after he glided from right to left to bank in a runner off one foot. He shook his head after he drained another three-point shot.

And in the end, James lifted two hands in the air in celebration.

“He,” D’Angelo Russell said “did him.”

In the final Hallway Series showdown between the Lakers and the Clippers â€" unless the Crypto.com Arena co-tenants meet in the playoffs â€" the NBA’s all-time leading scorer ensured the meeting wouldn’t be forgettable

Despite the Lakers trailing by 21 in the fourth quarter, James brought them all the way back, and when they needed to get one last stop to ensure the win, James was there to meet the challenge.

Kawhi Leonard’s baseline jumper missed short with James’ hand in his face, the Lakers winning 116-112 on Wednesday night after it looked like a blowout loss was on the way.

Ten seasons ago, the Clippers and their coach at the time, Doc Rivers, hatched a plan to cover the Lakers’ championship banners to make the arena they share feel more like their home. Wednesday, one of those banners read “Give no quarter.”

No ma tter. James was there to take the fourth.

He scored 19 of his 34 points in the quarter while dishing out four late assists, the Lakers getting huge shots from Rui Hachimura and Russell as they walloped the Clippers 39-16 in the final frame.

James scored or assisted on 11 of the 13 Lakers field goals in the fourth to wrap the Hallway Series era.

“Sicko mode,” Anthony Davis said.

In the second half, James guarded Leonard â€" the second-straight game where the Lakers adjusted by using him as a defender.

“Just got to d o what I gotta do,” James said. “If I'm in a lineup, if I'm on the floor, I got to make plays. Sometimes I got to make even more plays. And tonight was one of those moments where I had to make even more plays in order for us to even get back into the game and then ultimately win the game.”

Before the game, It felt like there would be some kind of resolution Wednesday.

Clippers coach Tyronn Lue was frustrated, the team having lost two of three since the All-Star break. The Clippers had pushed to the top of the Western Conference earlier in the month, looking like one of the league’s title contenders.

But losses to the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Sacramento Kings underscored slippage in execution and maybe some waning attention.

Lakers coach Darvin Ham also was frustrated, the team also having lost two of three since the break.

A run to end the first half of the season had created momentum, the team looking like a threat to make the playoff field and avoid the play-in tournament. But losses to the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns, plus a sloppy win against lowly San Antonio had the team trying to recapture rhythm.

The Clippers were looking to prove that their brief malaise was the kind of thing that happens to title teams â€" a let-up before refocusing for the final stretch.

And the Lakers?

“We needed one of these,” Ham said.

The Clippers, without All-Star forward Paul George and center Ivica Zubac, made a statement early, Terance Mann slamming a dunk over Davis in the opening minutes. And they reaffirmed it later, Kawhi Leonard walking into a three to extinguish a brief Lakers run in the second half.

But there was no slowing James, not as he ensured the Lakers won the season series with the Clippers for the first time since 2012.

The Clippers' defense never fully activated, and the Lakers shot bet ter than 50% for most of the game. But the stops for the Lakers never materialized, the Clippers hitting shots too often and too easily, Norman Powell ending the third with a buzzer-beating three in front of Austin Reaves, who was helpless to do anything other than roll his eyes in frustration.

But in the fourth, James was otherworldly â€" the Lakers winning the potential final fight as the road team in their building.

“In the second half we got up and then we turned the basketball over, didn’t get back in tran sition, and then of course LeBron got it going and then offensively we weren’t very organized,” Lue said. “We didn’t get organized, we didn’t do things we were supposed to do and so I take full responsibility for that. Just making sure we’re organized, knowing what we’re supposed to do. And like I said, then LeBron exploded.”

James’ fourth quarter began with him three threes in four Lakers’ possessions, quickly flipping the blowout into a competitive game. And then as the Clippers’ began to adjust, he picked apart the defense, opening the door for Hachimura and Russell to finish the game off.

“He had to take the cape, tuck it under his seat on the bench, I guess. It was time for him to whip it out. He definitely did that, put the cape on, and just got aggressive and got into good rhythm,” Ham said. “He's been shooting the ball extremely well this whole entire season. And that was just another case of i t. Once he got in rhythm and with his playmaking skills, he sets the tone with his shooting and going downhill. But then once they start scheming and trying to hit double team late, he was able to pick them apart with the pass and that's just who he is."

Team USA roster for 2024 Olympics: Jrue Holiday is a lock with LeBron James, Steph Curry in Paris, per report

Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday is expected to fill one of Team USA's 12 roster spots at the Paris Olympics, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania and Joe Vardon. Holiday, who reportedly committed in recent weeks, won a gold medal representing the United States at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Other "locks" for the 2024 Games, per The Athletic: Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Cel tics forward Jayson Tatum. (This assumes that all of these players will be healthy enough to play in July. Embiid is currently out with a knee injury, and the Sixers hope he'll be back on the court in late March, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.)

If those six are all able to participate, only six spots will remain up for grabs. Unlike some previous international competitions, this time, there is no shortage of American stars who plan to participate if asked. Suns guard Devin Booker, Lakers big man Anthony Davis, Heat big man Bam Adebayo and Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton have all either publicly pledged to play or reportedly made a commitment to USA Basketball. Los Angeles Clippers forwards Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have both said they want to be there.

In January, USA Basketball announced a pool of 41 players from which the final roster will be chosen. It includes all of the names mentioned above, plus Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen, Orlando Magic forward, Paolo Banchero, Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane, Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes, Brooklyn Nets wing Mikal Bridges, Celtics wing Jaylen Brown, New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, Heat wing Jimmy Butler, Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, Sacramento Kings guard De'Aaron Fox, Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon, Sixers guard James Harden, Knicks wing Josh Hart, Heat guard Tyler Herro, Oklahoma City Thunder big man Chet Holmgren, New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram, Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving, Grizzlies big man Jaren Jackson Jr., Nets forward Cam Johnson, Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler, Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard, Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, Warriors guard Chris Paul, Bucks big man Bobby Portis, Lakers wing Austin Reaves, Heat wing Duncan Robinson, Celtics guard Derrick White and Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young.

Holiday, 33, would make perfect sense for Team USA even if he had zero international experience. After making the All-Star team last season with the Bucks, he is now scoring only 13 points per game – his lowest average since his rookie season – while continuing to make a star-like impact for the best team in the league. Holiday is a smart off-ball player on offense, and he's one of the best (and most versatile) defenders on the planet, so he's an ideal fit next to superstars.

Clippers' Paul George Out vs. LeBron James, Lakers with Knee Injury

Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers with a knee injury.

George did not practice on Tuesday and head coach Tyronn Lue told reporters that "he's hurt," without going into further detail.

George has been mostly healthy this season, though he missed Sunday's loss to the Sacramento Kings with left knee soreness—the fourth game he missed this year because of the ailment.

The 33-year-old has dealt with knee issues since joining the Clippers ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, so the franchise has always been cautious with any issues that pop up given his inability to stay on the court.

George has played well this season, too, averaging 22.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 52 games while shooting 45.6 percent from the floor and 39.5 percent from beyond the arc.

George's health—and Kawhi Leonard's—has played a big role in L.A.'s success this year. The Clippers sit fourth in the Western Conference with a 37-19 record and are just 2.5 games back of the first-place Minnesota Timberwolves.

With the Clippers having a real chance to make a deep playoff run this season, keeping George healthy and preserving him for the postseason is a priority.

With George sidelined on Wednesday, Amir Coffey and Norman Powell should see more playing time. P.J. Tucker could also see some playing time, though he has been mostly out of Lue's rotation this season.

Lakers' LeBron James: Bronny's Work and Results Will Do the Talking, Not Mock Drafts

Brian Rothmuller/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

LeBron James is a four-time champion, one of the best basketball players in history and, apparently, not the biggest fan of mock drafts.

The King took to social media Monday to react to a post stating that ESPN removed the younger James from its 2024 mock draft and instead projected him to go to the NBA in 2025 and said, "if y'all don't know he doesn't care what a mock draft says, he just WORKS! Earned Not Given!"

James also said mock drafts don't matter "one bit" and encouraged younger players to keep "striving to be great."

ESPN isn't the only publication that doesn't envision Bronny James being drafted in 2024.

Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman did not include the USC guard in his most recent two-round mock draft, which was released Friday.

James is just a freshman for the Trojans and has been a secondary contributor. He is averaging 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 37.1 percent from the field and 27.5 percent from three-point range for an 11-16 squad.

It should be noted he missed some of the team's summer training and did not debut until more than a month into the season because he was recovering from the cardiac arrest he suffered in July.

If James does stay at USC, he will have a year of college basketball experience under his belt and, presumably, an entire offseason to prepare for the 2024-25 campaign. That should help him be a bigger factor for the Trojans during his sophomore season if he forgoes the NBA.

There has also been no shortage of speculation about LeBron James wanting to play alongside his son in the NBA at some point. The 20-time All-Star has a player option with the Los Angeles Lakers and could choose to exercise it and become a free agent during the same summer as the 2025 NBA draft.

If that is the same offseason that Bronny James chooses to go to the NBA, his father could wait to see what team drafts him and then go there in free agency.

For now, though, the younger James is focused on helping the Trojans improve down the stretch and, if his father is to be believed, not paying attention to any mock drafts.

Nikola Jokić Passes Lakers' LeBron James for 4th-Most Triple-Doubles in NBA History

Jed Jacobsohn/NBAE via Getty Images

Nikola Jokić made history Sunday night during the Denver Nuggets' 119-103 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

With 32 points, 16 assists and 16 rebounds, Jokić passed Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James for the fourth-most career triple-doubles in NBA history.

He trails only Russell Westbrook, Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson for the all-time lead.

Jokić has achieved the feat 139 times in 719 regular-season and playoff contests, while James has 138 triple-doubles in 1,753 total games.

The Nuggets star now needs 15 more triple-doubles to move past Magic Johnson for third on the NBA's list of all-time leaders.

Sunday's victory also marked the third time Jokić has totaled at least 30 points, 15 assists and 15 rebounds in a game, passing Wilt Chamberlain (two) for the second-most 30/15/15 outings in league history.

This is the third straight game in which Jokić has recorded a triple-double, with all three happening in just three quarters.

It's also the second time he's made history with his stat line this week.

After Jokić recorded 21 points, 19 rebounds and 15 assists during a win over the Washington Wizards Thursday, he has now recorded a triple-double against every team in the NBA. Only James and Russell Westbrook can say the same.

Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase watch Lakers-Suns in Phoenix, greet LeBron James after game

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase (left) and quarterback Joe Burrow

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and receiver Ja'Marr Chase sat courtside with teammates DJ Reader and Sam Hubbard for Sunday's NBA game between the Lakers and Suns in Phoenix, and Los Angeles superstar and Ohio native LeBron James chatted with both players after the game.

LeBron may have asked Chase how the Fruity Pebbles-themed cleats he sent as a gift last November are working out for him. Chase wore the cleats during a Thursday Night Football loss in Baltimore, and in practice earlier the same week.

The Suns' Devin Booker and Bradley Beal greeted the Bengals' players in attendance before the game.

From the NBA via Twitter/X:

Burrow appeared Saturday night at Rip Valley Hobby Shop in Phoenix as part of Fanatics Collectibles' Topps Hobby Rip Night.

The Suns' Devin Booker and Kevin Durant were at Paycor Stadium for the Bengals' home opener against the Ravens, sitting in Burrow's suite.

Burrow, Booker and Durant all attended billionaire Michael Rubin's Fourth of July "White Party" in the Hamptons.

Former Suns player Chris Paul, now with the Golden State Warriors, sent a signed jersey to Chase after tweeting that he needed a Chase jersey.

And former Suns player Cam John son, now with the Brooklyn Nets, wore a Chase jersey in 2022 as he declared on ESPN's "NBA Today" that his love for the Bengals grew from a hatred of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the fact that Chad Johnson also is a "C. Johnson."

WNBA legend offers thoughtful retirement advice for LeBron James: 'It's just as much about the fans'

LeBron James may be 21 years into arguably the greatest NBA career any player has ever had, but all good things come to an end eventually. Whether it's in one year or several, James will eventually play his final NBA game, and as he claimed at All-Star Weekend, he's not exactly sure how he wants that to play out.

"I don't know how many seasons I have left. I know it's not that many. I was asked this question a couple days ago, 'Will you take the farewell tour or just 'Tim Duncan' it?' I'm 50-50," James said. Duncan, famously, did not publicly reveal his retirement plans during the 2015-16 season. His San Antonio Spurs were eliminated from the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder and he quietly retired afterward.

During that same season, Kobe Bryant went on one of the most extravagant retirement tours the NBA has ever seen. Teams gave him gifts as he arrived in arenas for the final time, and the whole affair culminated with a 60-point finale in his last game against the Utah Jazz

Bryant wasn't the first player to do a retirement tour. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had a famous one of his own at the end of his legendary career, and New York Yankees legends Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera both had extravagant sendoffs. But Duncan and Bryant, both due to their stature and their differing preferences, have become the modern example of the retirement spectrum. James, publicly at least, has indicated that he currently falls somewhere between the two.

Fortunately, another basketball legend has some advice for him. WNBA icon Sue Bird followed Bryant's path and had a tour of her own for her final season, and in an appearance on Sports Media with Richard Deitsch, she advised James to do the same.

"When I look back I still have fond, fond, fond memories," Bird said of her tour. "I wouldn't change a thing. I'm so glad I announced when I announced and I got to experience the farewell tour, and I was actually anti-that at one point a couple of years prior, so that was interesting for me to experience it in that way. My only regret is how the season ended because we lost.

"Otherwise, no, whoever this applies to, I could not recommend this more. I tell Diana, 'I cannot recommend this enough,' if I talked to LeBron right now, I'd be like 'Bro, I could not recommend this enough.' Because what I realized is a couple of things. One, it's just as much about the fans and them being able to say goodbye to you. And I always thought of it like, 'I don't know if I want this attention.' You have to almost see outside of yourself and understand that this is going to be meaningful for so many people. The second thing, I will say, it can be a lot. It can be a lot, but I just think the pros outweigh the cons. I'll finish with, it is each individual's choice, you have to be up for it, or game for it. I would just always argue that there might be things you personally gain or things you learn about yourself, your career, your relationship with the fans without this experience."

Given his longevity, fans need that opportunity to say goodbye to James more than they have for any other star in league history. He's been around for over two decades with no end in sight. He's already played against 40% of all players in NBA history, and that number is going to creep closer to a 50-50 split the longer he stays in the league. There are quite a few adult fans that have never experienced an NBA without James in it.

Fortunately, while James himself hasn't made a commitment in one direction or another, the general consensus seems to be that he is likelier to do one than not. Yes, he hinted at retirement consideration after losing the Western Conference Finals last season, but those comments were dismissed so heartily by the rest of the league that Nuggets coach Michael Malone even joked about them at after Denver won the title.

James has never been subtle. Whatever he does, he does it with flair. The thought that the player behind "The Decision" might retire without any fanfare seems very unlikely. If Bird's comments help push him over the top, then all the better.

Lakers' LeBron James Hypes Rip Hamilton for Halfcourt Shot in College GameDay Video

Jesse D. Garrabrant/NBAE via Getty Images

After Rip Hamilton nailed a halfcourt shot on ESPN's College GameDay on Saturday, LeBron James was quick to hype up the NBA legend.

Hamilton, who played at UConn from 1996 to 1999, was making an appearance at his alma mater for the Huskies' matchup with Villanova on Saturday when he attempted—and drained—a halfcourt shot.

Hamilton was a standout at UConn, averaging 19.8 points per game during his three-year college career. He was then selected with the seventh pick in the 1999 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards after his time with the Huskies.

Hamilton had a successful 14-year NBA career between the Wizards, Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls, putting up 17.1 points per game throughout his tenure.

Hamilton is now hoping the Huskies can have as much success as he had on GameDay as they take on Villanova. UConn has been the team to beat this season, sitting at 24-3 on the year and ranked No. 1 in the latest Associated Press poll.

What are the odds for when will LeBron James score his 40,000th career point?

NBA fans can bet on which opponent LeBron will score his 40,000th career point against. James is still 132 points away from 40,000, so oddsmakers are expecting him to need a handful of games to reach the historical number.

The list below shows Los Angeles' schedule over the next few weeks along with the odds on DraftKings Sportsbook correlated to James scoring his 40,000th career point in that game.

  • @ Spurs on Feb. 23 (1,000-to-1)
  • @ Suns on Feb. 25 (1,000-to-1)
  • @ Clippers on Feb. 28 (200-to-1)
  • vs Wizards on Feb. 29 (+1800)
  • vs Nuggets on March 2 (+260)
  • vs Thunder on March 4 (+170)
  • vs Kings on March 6 (+290)
  • vs Bucks on March 8 (+650)
  • The 39-year-old veteran is averaging 24.8 points per game this season, and he is shooting 52% from the field. If he continues on his scoring average each game, he will reach 40,000 points against the Thunder on March 4, so it's no surprise to see that game listed with the shortest odds at +170.

But, if James has a couple low-scoring performances, it could take him a bit longer. Conversely, if he exceeds his scoring average a couple times, it could take him fewer games to reach 40,000. That's why DraftKings also gives bettors these two options on when LeBron's 40,000th point will occur:

  • vs Thunder on March 4 or BEFORE this game (-170)
  • vs Kings on March 6 or AFTER this game (+130)
  • This option is great for bettors who don't want to pick a singular game.

How will LeBron James score his 40,000th career regular season point?

No matter how he scores it, history will be made when LeBron converts on his 40,000th regular season point in the NBA. But for those who have a hunch on how he will score it, there is a betting option just for you.

Along with betting on which game James will score his 40,000th point, you can also bet on how he will do so.

While DraftKings gives bettors the option to choose between a 2-point field goal (-160), 3-point field goal (+260), and free throw (+390), FanDuel Sportsbook is a bit more specific:

  • Layup (+175)
  • 3-point field goal (+300)
  • Other (+320)
  • Free throw (+500)
  • Dunk (+550)
  • When betting on the latest LeBron James odds, keep in mind that odds can vary from sportsbook to sportsbook. In addition, odds are subject to change up until each game tips off.

Nikola Jokic's latest triple-double accomplishment puts him in a club with LeBron James and Russell Westbrook

Another night, another triple-double record for Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic. With 21 points, 19 rebounds and 15 assists in a 130-110 win over the Washington Wizards on Thursday, Jokic has now recorded a triple-double against every team he's played against.

The only other players to pull off that feat are LeBron James and Russell Westbrook, who have actually done so against every single team, including those they were previously on. (Westbrook even did it twice.) Jokic, of course, would have to leave Denver if he ever wanted to join that exclusive club, but that's not going to happen any time soon. And if it ever does, it won't be to chase a statistic.

Jokic almost took care of business in the first half, as he went into the break with 10 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists without missing a shot against the porous Wizards defense. Barely a minute into the second half, he finalized the triple-double and history with a pass to Aaron Gordon for an and-one slam. It was not one of the finest assists you'll ever see from Jokic, as Gordon did the vast majority of the work, but it was an assist all the same.

Here's a look at how many triple-doubles Jokic has against each opponent, per DNVR Nuggets

If registering a triple-double against every other club wasn't enough, Jokic also surpassed Wilt Chamberlain for the most triple-doubles without missing a shot. He now has four such games after a perfect 10-of-10 shooting performance.

This was also Jokic's fifth game with at least 20 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists, which ranks fourth all-time. Only Oscar Robertson (15), Chamberlain (six) and Westbrook (six) have more.

For the season, Jokic is now averaging 26 points, 12.1 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game, and has the Nuggets in a tie for third place in the Western Conference at 37-19. It's no surprise, then, that he's the MVP favorite and looks to be on pace to earn the honor for the third time in four seasons.

What if LeBron James joined the Warriors to play with Steph Curry?

LeBron James and Steph Curry are widely regarded as two of the best basketball players in history and have been central figures in shaping the NBA landscape for over a decade now. Their remarkable careers and enduring impact on the sport have prompted speculation about the possibility of these future hall of famers teaming up before they retire.

Two storied careers and years of rivalry

Over the past few seasons, James has expressed his interest in teaming up with Steph Curry, stating that aside from playing alongside his son Bronny, he would love the chance to share the court with Curry before retiring from professional basketball.

The careers of James and Curry have coincided with a fierce rivalry on the basketball court. From 2015 to 2019, LeBron and the Cavaliers faced off against Steph Curry and the Warriors in four consecutive NBA Finals. The Cavaliers secured one championship, while the Warriors secured the other three.

From winning MVP awards to grabbing several NBA championships, both players have consistently demonstrated their exceptional talent and leadership qualities on the court, earning admiration and respect from fans and other players around the league.

Now, at 39 years old, LeBron is currently in his 20th season in the league, spending his sixth season with the Lakers. Meanwhile, Curry, at 35 years old, is embarking on his 15th year in the league, all with the Warriors. Rumors continue to grow hoping to see LeBron join Steph on the court before hanging up the sneakers.

    Will LeBron join Steph?

If this question was asked a few years ago, fans would think it's a joke. Now, that is not the case at all. LeBron has expressed frustration with the Lakers on several occasions this season. It has become incredibly logical and realistic for him to join Steph Curry and the Warriors before calling it quits.

Of course, there are challenges to overcome before LeBron and Curry could become teammates. Both players are under contract with their respective teams, and any move would require careful negotiation and planning.

Additionally, there would be questions about how their playing styles would mesh, who would take on the leadership role on the court and who would take the last shot.

    Lakers and Warriors struggles

Moreover, the way this season is panning out for the Lakers, this may be the wake-up call LeBron needs to make a decision. The Lakers continue to struggle to find their groove this season, showing that they could use more All-Star-level help.

Currently positioned in ninth place, the Lakers hover just outside playoff contention with a 30-26 record. James continues to lead the team in assists, averaging 7.8 per game, while also ranking 16th in the NBA for scoring, with an average of 24.8 points per game.

On the other hand, the Warriors have been battling with player injuries and inconsistencies on the offensive and defensive end. With Klay Thompson showing inconsistent numbers this year, and Chris Paul being sidelined with injuries, the Warriors are also in need of major help.

The Golden State Warriors are scheduled to match up against the Los Angeles Lakers this Friday, February 23rd. The top PA sportsbooks are the place to make your wagers for the game.

LeBron to Golden State or Steph down to LA

Both clubs could be ideal destinations for these two to pair up, but the odds of Steph Curry leaving Golden State are very unlikely in comparison to LeBron wanting to be traded out of Los Angeles. In other words, this duo has a higher chance of playing together in a Warriors uniform rather than a Lakers uniform.

The simple reason is that Steph is most likely going to retire as a Warrior. He's never played for another team and has demonstrated unwavering loyalty to the Warriors organization and brought four NBA Championships to the franchise.

Whereas, LeBron helped LA win the 2020 NBA Championship, but has not shown any progress with the team since. Just these last two seasons, the Lakers have struggled to secure a playoff spot.

Let's also not forget that LeBron would also have the opportunity to play for Hall of Fame player and coach, Steve Kerr, rather than potentially staying under the leadership of someone like Darvin Ham, who lacks Kerr's accolades and experience.

How would it look to have LeBron and Steph together?

Envisioning LeBron James and Stephen Curry suiting up together raises a fascinating question: What would it actually look like? At first glance, the idea of this combination almost seems too good to be true. Picture this: the all-time scoring leader paired with the all-time leader in three-point field goals. It's a scenario that reeks of trouble for the opposing defense for the entire game.

Pairing LeBron's unmatched diverse skill set, which includes playmaking, on-court leadership, ball handling and strong offensive presence, with Curry's limitless range and elite off-the-ball movement, would create an offensive juggernaut capable of dismantling any defense they encounter.

Witnessing these two players in action together would be incredibly entertaining. While their age may have caught up with their endurance or athleticism, they still can dominate a game when necessary. Keep in mind, that both players are averaging over 20+ points per game along with 5+ assists per game. If the two team up we'd be making that NBA moneyline bet every night.

The concept of LeBron James and Stephen Curry joining forces remains speculative, yet both superstars have achieved nearly everything they sought to accomplish in their basketball careers. While this idea might have seemed far-fetched several years ago, it now presents a genuine possibility that fans could witness as soon as next season.

LeBron James vs. Steph Curry: Who are you taking?

WHO Los Angeles Lakers (30-26) vs. Golden State Warriors (27-26) WHEN February 22nd at 10 p.m. ET WHERE Chase Center | San Francisco, California HOW TNT

Two of the biggest superstars in the NBA will face off on Thursday in San Francisco when the Warriors host the Lakers. While both teams have solid supporting casts, all eyes will be on Steph Curry and LeBron James.

The Warriors' apparent attempt to trade for James at the trade deadline fell short, so James will in fact suit up for Los Angeles following his appearance in Indianapolis for the All-Star Game (as of this writing, James is a game-time decision to play due to a left ankle injury. Pay attention for updates on his status).

Let's take a look at some of the top props for each player in this star-filled matchup. First, here are the odds for the game from the top online sportsbooks:

    LeBron James props

All LeBron James props are courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook:

These are just some of the props available to bet on for James' game on Thursday. One of the props we are hammering is the over on LeBron's three-pointers made. James has made multiple three-pointers in nine of the last 10 games he has played in. While the odds you are getting aren't great, it seems like a surefire winning bet.

Another bet to look at is the over on 0.5 blocks. While he averages just 0.6 blocks per game, he has recorded a block in six of the past seven games he has played in. For all the talk about his potential retirement, James still has ample athleticism.

We would rather stay away from the other props listed above, as it is hard to tell how James will look following the long layoff, or whether there will be a minutes restriction.

    Stephen Curry props

All Stephen Curry props are courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook:

To have a three-pointers prop be set at 5.5 seems ambitiously high, but such is the bar that Curry has set. Arguably the best shooter in NBA history, Curry is on a hot streak entering the All-Star break, and his hot shooting continued there in defeating Sabrina Ionescu in their three-point shootout.

In Curry's past five games, he has made at least seven threes in four of them, averaging 7.6 made three-pointers over that five-game span. Unless Curry experiences something similar to the Home Run Derby slump, his hot shooting should continue against the Lakers.

Curry's assist numbers and point totals have fluctuated wildly of late, so we're not going to force any other prop bets.

Game prediction: Warriors 121, Lakers 115

Curry and his supporting cast will be too much for a hobbled James and company. Every game counts down the stretch. The Lakers are in the ninth spot in the West and the Warriors are just behind in tenth. A Golden State win tonight will move the Dubs up to ninth. Both squads have seen postseason success in years past, but have nit performed at a championship level this season. These two team would be in a play-in game if the season ended today.

At 39 years old, LeBron James is still the market-maker

The history-making longevity of L.A. Lakers superstar LeBron James has been one of the storylines of the 2023-24 NBA campaign. In his 21st year, James is still in the vicinity of his peak years as a player, averaging 24.8 points, 7.8 assists and 7.2 rebounds per game, while the only other players to have played that long (Vince Carter, Robert Parish, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett and Kevin Willis) were sha dows of their former selves by the same stage.

On the court, James is still having an impact unlike anyone else before him. And it turns out that this may be the case off the court, too.

Last week, ESPN reported that at the trade deadline, the Golden State Warriors threw a Hail Mary attempt and reached out to the ownership of James’s team, the Los Angeles Lakers, about possibly trading for him. And while it clearly did not work â€" the Lakers, simply, had no reason to engage in any such discussi on â€" the existence of the report speaks to the continued importance of LeBron in the transaction market.

Paying historically high levels of salary for what still might not be a playoff team, the Warriors sought some sort of rejuvenation. The Chris Paul trade in the offseason had not kept the title window open as intended, and, with the trio of Stephen Curry/Klay Thompson/Draymond Green in the final quarter of their careers, they needed to go big if they were going to make a deal at all.

A move for James, though, w ould have been bigger even than most optimists would have envisaged. The fact that they felt it was a phone call they were both willing and able to make speaks to a perception, real or not, that James might have been available.

History supports the idea that he is availableLeBron has always held enormous player power

Who is the next face of the NBA after LeBron James?

For the 20th time in his storied NBA career, LeBron James played in the All-Star Game last weekend in Indianapolis. A question was posed to him regarding which player will take the torch as the generation's top player when James retires, which will be in the not-so-distant future.

James had this to answer: "I don't think you just say, 'OK, well, this guy's the next person. You have to just let it happen organically and see what happens. But we have some great, great players in this league that can carry anything if they put their minds where they want it."

We thought this could be a fun task, to choose the heir apparent to Kings James's throne.

For the purposes of this exercise, we decided to include candidates under the age of 29. This non-arbitrary number was selected to exclude superstars such as Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo (who are both 29 years young). The reason for this criterion is that James still has a couple of good years left (the man is averaging 24.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 7.8 assists as a 39-year-old). Players such as Jokic and Giannis, as well as Steph Curry and Kevin Durant, could be approaching their twilight years by the time James is done.

Without further ado, let's meet our candidates for the next face of the NBA:

    Luka Doncic

Like James, Donic has made the All-Star team every year since his sophomore season. The Slovenian national, who will turn 25 on February 28, is already one of the most dominant players in the league, averaging over 34 points per game this season and a near triple-double.

As you can see, Doncic doesn't rely too much on his athleticism, which should help keep him in the elite echelon as he ages. The only thing left for Doncic to do is win. Not awards, of which he has collected almost all of them (except MVP, where he is on track to finish top-10 in voting for the fifth straight season). The Mavericks have won just two playoff series since Luka arrived in Dallas, both last season. If he can continue to progress in that avenue, he can certainly take the title as the new face of the league.

    Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

The Canadian who played collegiately at Kentucky just started in the All-Star game in his second appearance on that stage. Gilgeous-Alexander, like Doncic, is also 25 years old and just keeps on improving.

Gilgeous-Alexander is firmly in the MVP conversation this season, averaging north of 31 points and leading the league in steals, a true two-way star. The guard (+210) has the second-best odds to take home the league's MVP award. Last, but not least, he has the young, upstart Thunder toward the top of the Western Conference standings.

    Victor Wembanyama

When you are talking about potential, there is no one with the potential to be as great as LeBron as much as Wembanyama. His length, talent and skill set are an unmatched combination, and the 20-year-old has lived up to his billing as a rookie.

The Frenchman is averaging 20.5 points and 10 rebounds per game, along with a league-leading 3.2 blocks. If he can stay healthy which can be challenging for someone with his 7-foot-4 frame, the sky is truly the limit.

The future face of the NBA is…

While these are all great options, we'll go with Doncic. He has continued to improve each season and if he ever has a decent supporting cast, there is little doubt that he can win big. Plus, his game should age gracefully throughout his career.

LeBron James rocks Deion Sanders-inspired Nike shoes at 2024 NBA All-Star Game

Like almost every other NBA All-Star weekend of the last two decades, the 2024 All-Star game lulled on with the league’s best players running up the score against poor defensive effort at best. Another constant was the appearance of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, who wore Deion Sanders-inspired shoes during his 20th All-Star Game.

As captain of the Western All-Stars, King James rocked a sneaker mashup of his newest Nike LeBron 21s and Sanders’ Air Diamond Turf Max ’96s. The low-top model to ok off James’ signatures while the design featured Sanders’ iconic triangular black and white clash accompanied by a couple of subtle gold swooshes.

According to seasoned sole collector Nick DePaula, James wore the shoes in recognition of his “Prime Year,” with this season being the 39-year-old’s 21st NBA campaign. Sanders wore No. 21 during his NFL playing career.

While Sanders and James have continuously shown each other respect, especially as of late with Coach Prime leading the Colorado Buffaloes, this gesture may have taken the cake.

James finished with eight points, four rebounds and three assists in his team’s 211-186 loss to the Eastern All-Stars.

Windhorst: LeBron James 'Basically Already Negotiating' for $50M Lakers Contract

Jesse D. Garrabrant/NBAE via Getty Images

LeBron James can become a free agent at the end of the 2023-24 season, but don't expect him to go anywhere.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst said he believes James will finish his career with the Los Angeles Lakers and is "basically already negotiating for his contract."

"I do and I think that he definitely left the door open, especially in the wake of the talks between the Lakers and the Warriors, about a trade there," Windhorst said on Get Up when discussing James' future. "And that is just his nature. He is basically already negotiating for his contract. He can opt out of his contract again this season and sign a new multiyear deal. He can also opt out of his contract and entertain other offers. But I'm just going to say I wouldn't pay much attention to this outside the Lakers situation.

"Two years ago, you may remember he was annoyed the Lakers didn't do anything at the trade deadline. He went to Cleveland during All-Star weekend and said he wasn't closing the door on going back to Cleveland. Everybody got all up in arms and a few months later he signed a two-year contract extension. So, he loves playing in LA. He loves playing for $50 million a year, which he would get staying in Los Angeles. And ultimately, that's where I think he's going to be."

James has a $51.4 million player option for next season. He could either decline that option and negotiate a new deal as a free agent or take the $51.4 million salary and negotiate an extension using that number as a base.

While James reportedly wants to remain with the Lakers, it has not been all smooth sailing this season. The Lakers are just 30-26 overall despite winning six of their last seven heading into the break, and James made a number of cryptic comments leading up to the deadline. James' public demeanor was so negative that the Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers even approached the Lakers about a trade. The Lakers declined all overtures after James made it clear he did not want to be traded via agent Rich Paul.

Windhorst did say the Lakers and Warriors could revisit talks in the offseason, depending on how this season plays out.

"LeBron could opt into his contract for an extra year and then sort of engineer a trade if he really wanted to," Windhorst said. "And I do think that depending on how the season ends for both of those teams, right now they're in ninth and 10th, If they end ninth and 10th and don't make it into the playoffs through the play-in tournament I think anything's going to be on the table. But again, LeBron loves living in Los Angeles. His family is in Los Angeles. His future after the game is in Los Angeles. I would be a fool to rule anything out with LeBron but I really don't think it's something that is seriously being considered and if anything, it's a negotiating stance for him as he tries to get maybe one last multiyear contract."

One potential mitigating factor is James' desire to play with his son, USC guard Bronny James, who will be eligible for the 2024 draft. Bronny James has not played to the caliber of an NBA draft pick as he's worked his way back after going into cardiac arrest over the summer, but a team could take a chance in hopes of luring LeBron for his ride off into the sunset.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported some teams believe James could sign at less than his maximum in order to play with his son next season.

Lakers' LeBron James Says He's Committed to Play for Team USA in 2024 Paris Olympics

    Katelyn Mulcahy/Getty Images

LeBron James will be 39 years old and coming off his 21st season in the NBA this summer, but that's not going to stop him from representing his country in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The King told reporters Sunday that he plans on playing in the Games as long as he is healthy enough at that point of the calendar. "If I'm committed, which I am, I'm going to commit my mind, body and soul," he said.

James also pointed out he appreciates he doesn't have to "carry the load" at this point of his career thanks to how many talented teammates he figures to have in Paris.

Last month, USA Basketball announced a 41-player pool for the 2024 team. That group will eventually be trimmed to a 12-member team, and there is no shortage of star players for managing director Grant Hill, head coach Steve Kerr and others to choose from ahead of the Olympics.

In addition to James, players such as Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton, among others, are part of the 41-player pool.

As long as James wants to play, he will be a part of the team.

After all, he is on the shortest of short lists of the best players in NBA history and has plenty of experience at the Olympic level with three different appearances. He was part of the American teams that took home the gold in 2008 and 2012, as well as the one that captured bronze in the 2004 Games.

Including James on this year's team wouldn't just be a nod to his past either.

He will take the court for his 20th career All-Star Game on Sunday and remains an excellent player who is averaging 24.8 points, 7.8 assists, 7.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game this season for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The four-time champion will be a veteran leader for Team USA in France, but he is also still capable of taking over games as he pursues a third gold medal in his Olympics career.

What if the Warriors actually paired Steph Curry with LeBron James?

    Melissa Rohlin

    FOX Sports NBA Writer

The NBA trade deadline wasn't that eventful. No A-listers were moved. No jaw-dropping drama ensued.

But after it passed, news broke of a trade attempt so big that it could have shifted the power dynamic of the league.

The Golden State Warriors reportedly reached out to the Los Angeles Lakers to see if they'd be willing to trade LeBron James in hopes of pairing him with Steph Curry. According to a report from ESPN on Wednesday, Draymond Green even got involved, urging his and James' agent, Rich Paul, to convince James to make the move. But both Lakers' owner Jeanie Buss and James apparently w eren't interested in a trade.

    Talk about a tease.

As James and Curry prepare to share the court for Sunday's All-Star Game, it's hard not to think about what could've been. They're the two most important players of the last decade, who've won eight of the last 12 championships and met in four straight Finals from 2015-2018.

James is widely considered one of the greatest players of all time. And Curry is known as the best shooter ever. Pairing them would've been a dream for fans and a nightmare for defenses.

It also would've been interesting because they share a similar sense of urgency.

Their championship windows are closing, with the 39-year-old James in season 21 and the 35-year-old Curry in year 15. And their teams are middling, with the Lakers in ninth place in the Western Conference and the Warriors in 10th. If they joined forces, they'd instantly become title favorites.

The funny thing is, James has entertained the thought of playing with Curry before.

Back in 2022, James was asked which NBA player he'd love to play with most in an episode of "The Shop," and he didn't hesitate.

"Steph Curry's the one that I wanna play with for sure, in today's game," James said.."...I love everything about that guy. Lethal. When he get out his car, you better guard him right from the moment he pulls up to the arena. ... You might wanna guard him when he get out of the bed. Swear to god. He's serious."

At the time, Curry appeared flattered, but shrugged it off as an impossibility.

"Whenever you get the interest or curiosity of what it'd be like to play with arguably an MVP-caliber dude like he is and one of the greatest of all time, cool, it's amazing," Curry told 95.7 The Game in 2022. "We all can't live in that fantasy world, though."

Despite James' daydreaming, it's not surprising that when the opportunity arose to transform it into a reality, he ultimately declined, not wanting to leave Los Angeles.

He loves the city. His older son, Bronny, plays for USC. The Lakers are reportedly open to drafting Bronny next season, which would make them the first father-son duo to share a court. And ever since he put pressure on the Lakers by tweeting an emoji of an hourglass on Jan. 30, they've won six of their last seven games.

Regardless, Curry didn't appear shocked that the Warriors took their shot with James.

"Obviously, a guy like Bron, you would probably call just to see," Curry told reporters Wednesday. "I don't know what the depths of the conversations were. But it was a nice little surprise this morning, for sure."

    There could be repercussions, though.

Warriors reportedly attempted to trade for LeBron to join Steph Curry | The Herd

Green advocating for the Warriors to acquire James meant that he was willing to potentially part ways with many of his teammates. To match James' $47.6 million salary, the Warriors would've likely needed to boot some combination of Klay Thompson, Jonathan Kuminga, Chris Paul and Andrew Wiggins, along with picks and young players.

That getting leaked could obviously be a touchy subject, especially if Thompson were a part of the talks. Green, Curry and Thompson have played together for 12 seasons, winning four championships.

For the Lakers, this news may have had the opposite effect. It helped silence questions about James' commitment to the team ahead of his $51.4 million player option for next season. He had an opportunity to play with his dream teammate, yet he chose to remain in Los Angeles.

So, for now, we will only see James and Curry in the same uniform if it's emblazoned with the words "All Star."

James' and Curry's paths have intersected before in serendipitous ways.

They were born at the same hospital in Akron, Ohio, 39 months apart. And they've gone on to forever be a part of one another's legacies. Curry led the Warriors past James' Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals three times. And James orchestrated the greatest comeback in Finals history against Curry in 2016, leading the Cavaliers to become the only team  to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the championship round.

It would've been amazing watching two of the greatest rivals of the last decade join forces to create a superteam, tearing through their competition with a combination of brute force and a soft touch with endless range.

But just like we'll never be able to watch James and Michael Jordan play one-on-one in their prime, or Curry and Magic Johnson face off to settle the debate over who's the greatest point guard, there's another duo we'll always have "what ifs" about.

What if James and Curry had teamed up late in their careers? What would've happened?

    It appears we'll never know.

LeBron James was sending a message with Knicks towel: Brian Windhorst

It's never an accident with LeBron James.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst, who has documented James' career since high school, said the Lakers star was sending a message to the team's management by draping a Knicks towel over his shoulders during a postgame television interview on Saturday night.

"Obviously LeBron often wears towels and this is why it's so brilliant because he has perfect deniability," Windhorst said on his "Hoops Collective" podcast.

"He can just be like, 'Oh, I just put a towel around my shoulders. What are you talking about? You guys are out of your mind.' But this is what LeBron excels at. He computes all this stuff. Of course, he was cognizant and aware he was putting on a towel that said New York Knicks. Why would he mess with the Knicks? Because he was using the Knicks as a tool to pressure the Lakers."

James scored 24 points to lead the Lakers to a 113-105 win at Madison Square Garden, snapping the Knicks' nine-game winning streak.

He was complimentary of star guard Jalen Brunson — "more than an All-Star level this year" — and the Knicks in the postgame interview.

The win, though, only improved the Lakers to 26-25 as all is not right in La La Land this season.

Despite the relative health of James and fellow star Anthony Davis, the team is battling for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

James was tight-lipped about his Lakers future — including on his player option for next season — when asked before Saturday night's game, and that came after he posted an hourglass emoji on X.

LeBron James led the Lakers to a win over the Knicks on Feb. 3, 2024. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post

And though James' agent, Rich Paul, shot down trade speculation on Friday involving his client, it is clear James wants the Lakers to make a move to make the team a more viable title contender.

"This is a playbook he has gone to many times," Windhorst said of the 39-year-old James. "He wants the Lakers to throw it all in to maximize this season… That's what LeBron is going to do.

"I don't think he has any intention to leave the Lakers. I don't think.. he has his position hurt by leaving his future up in the air."

If James' position does change or if he opts to leave Los Angeles this offseason, the Knicks are a more attractive landing place than they have been in some time.

Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle have turned the team into legitimate contenders in the Eastern Conference, currently sitting as the No. 4 seed with a 32-18 record.

NBA LeBron James 40,000 point odds: Bet on when he’ll do it and how he’ll score it

Catena Media provides exclusive sports betting and casino content to NJ.com, including picks, analysis, tools and sportsbook offers to help bettors get in on the action. Please wager responsibly.

For the next 20 years or so, whenever someone asks a question about an NBA all-time record, just guess LeBron James and you'll probably be right.

James, already the all-time leading scorer in NBA history, is closing in on 40,000 regular season points, which is an incredible landmark.

Two of the top online sportsbooks — DraftKings and FanDuel — are offering markets on exactly when LeBron will get that magical basket and what kind of shot it will come on.

As we enter the NBA All-Star break this weekend in Indiana (LeBron playing for a record 20th time) the 39-year-old Lakers star has 39,868 points. That's 132 points away from 40K.

Just when and how will James get to 40K? Read on as we examine the odds and discuss our best bet recommendations on when and how King James will make history.

LeBron James 40,000-point odds: When will he do it?

Let's do some math. Don't worry this isn't hard. James is 132 points away and currently averaging 24.8 points a game - his lowest point total since his rookie year with the Cavs.

We will round that off to 25 points. Do that and it tells us that James will cross 40,000 points six games from now (6x25 is 150 points). But could he do it sooner?

Or do we need to be thinking of an injury situation? James is 39. He's been dealing with an ankle injury and he didn't play in Wednesday's game over the Jazz. The Lakers would probably never say it, but a healthy James for the All-Star Game is more important than a regular season game against the Jazz.

When the Lakers come back Thursday night, they play at Golden State. Remember, those two played an epic 145-144 OT game a few weeks ago. Then the Lakers are home for the Spurs and star rookie Victor Wembanyama.

James isn't missing those two games.

Then the Lakers are at Phoenix, which features superstar Kevin Durant. James is playing in that one too, then back in LA on Feb. 28 against the Clippers. The Clippers have been one of the best teams in the NBA. No way James sits for that one.

Now it gets interesting. On Leap Day, Feb. 29, the Lakers host the Wizards. The 9-45 Wizards. The woeful Wizards, the second-worst team in the East Wizards. It's the second game of a back-to-back. The Lakers will be big favorites and could probably beat the Wizards with their B team. So maybe LeBron takes the night off.

Because look at those four games before that. We're projecting LeBron to score 25 points in all of those, but could he go off for 40 against the Suns or the Warriors? Suddenly that skews the math. Let's say he's 10-15 points away from 40,000 heading into the Wizards game. No way he plays.

After a day off, the Lakers play the defending NBA champion Nuggets in a primetime broadcast on Saturday, March 2. This is the moment.

DraftKings Sportsbook has its LeBron 40,000 watch under Record Breakers. It lists the Denver game at +200 for the milestone to happen, followed by the Thunder game (March 4) +235 and the Wizards game (Feb. 29) at +380.

FanDuel Sportsbook also sees the Nuggets game as the moment for history, listing it at +310, with the Thunder game +250, and the Wizards game +440. Interestingly, they also have the Clippers game at +750, which would mean LeBron would average 30 plus points in his next four games.

LeBron James 40,000-point odds: What kind of shot will net history?

DraftKings and FanDuel are offering odds on what kind of shot LeBron will use to score his 40,000th point.

DraftKings has it broken down in three methods:

  • Field Goal -160
  • Three-Pointer +260
  • Free throw +390
  • FanDuel has it split apart differently:

  • Layup +175
  • Three Pointer +270
  • Other +300
  • Free Throw +420
  • Dunk +650
  • When will LeBron get 40,000? My bet is the Nuggets game. Even if the Lakers have to manipulate the management for LeBron, there will be pressure on him to do it then.

How? All I can say is everyone in the arena and the players will know what's coming. Remember how A-Rod and Jeter each hit home runs for their 3,000th hit? LeBron is getting 40,000 on a dunk.
