Bronny delightfully roasted his dad when asked about LeBron scoring on him in Lakers scrimmage

Last week, we heard of an early "Welcome to the NBA" moment from rookie Bronny James, and it came courtesy of his own father. But that play — where LeBron took Bronny baseline for the score — was lacking Bronny's take.

On Monday, Bronny was asked about the play. And honestly, his answer didn't disappoint. We got a glimpse of what the father-son dynamic could be like with the Lakers this season.

When the moment was brought up in an interview at Lakers media, Bronny — with LeBron seated besides him — had to roast his father by claiming that the future Hall of Famer stepped out of bounds. LeBron wasn't going to let Bronny have that either.

"What do you mean you're not going to go there? You just went there!"

That banter is going to be wild to hear as the season gets going.

LeBron James Takes A Subtle Jab At DeShawn Stevenson Over Their 2008 Feud

LeBron James Jabs DeShawn Stevenson Over 2008 Feud.LeBron James, DeShawn Stevenson (Images Credit: Getty Images)

LeBron James has had many rivals during his 22 years in the NBA. One of his most famous rivals is DeShawn Stevenson. Their rivalry started in 2008 because of a comment Stevenson made. This remark led to a strong feud between them that was visible both in games and in the news. The competition between LeBron and Stevenson became a big story, with fans and media following every moment of their interactions.

An Instagram account recently brought up that feud and shared a quote from James, saying the Washington Wizards couldn't come back from a 3-1 deficit. They really couldn't. LeBron responded to this on Instagram, saying, "Come at the King. You best not miss! By the way, I was 23 years old! Haha!"

The beef between them started in 2008 when Stevenson, who played for the Washington Wizards, called LeBron "overrated" after he missed a game-winning shot against the Wizards on March 13. This comment started a heated rivalry.

In 2008, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Washington Wizards faced off in the playoffs for the third straight year. The Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, had won the previous two series and wanted to win again.

The 2008 series began with LeBron helping the Cavaliers take a 2-0 lead. Then, they moved to Washington for Game 3, where the rapper Soulja Boy showed up wearing a Stevenson jersey. In that game, the Wizards shocked the Cavaliers, winning 108-72, making fans think the series might be exciting.

However, LeBron James and the Cavaliers bounced back, winning Game 4 and taking a 3-1 lead. When asked if the Wizards could come back, LeBron laughed off the idea.

Although the Wizards won Game 5, the Cavaliers finished the series in six games, much to LeBron's joy as he wanted to send Stevenson home. During the series, LeBron even mocked Stevenson's famous celebration, "I can't feel my face," showing there was serious tension between them.

Stevenson did get his revenge later as he was part of the Dallas Mavericks team that defeated LeBron's Miami Heat in the 2011 NBA Finals. Years later, Stevenson looked back on the feud and said he regretted his actions, realizing he had acted immaturely.

LeBron James Photographed in French Maid Costume?

Claim:

A photograph shared online in late September 2024 authentically showed LeBron James wearing a French maid costume.

In late September 2024, a photograph spread on social media allegedly showing NBA star LeBron James wearing a French maid costume while posing in a mirror.

"Ain't no party like a Diddy party," one X user captioned the supposed selfie (archived), which had amassed more than 36 million views as of this writing.

Other X users wanted to know whether it was real, with one asking: "@KingJames is this really you?"

(X user @IsabellaMDeLuca)

Google reverse image search results indicated the picture had appeared on numerous social media platforms, such as Instagram, YouTube, Threads, Facebook, and 9GAG, since at least late April 2024.

However, because the photo displayed numerous signs of being digitally manipulated, we have rated it as fake.

First, James had no tattoo on his chest in the fake image. As can be seen in a picture on his official Instagram account, the NBA star has body art that goes up to his neck.

Second, James seemed to only have four fingers on his right hand in the fake photo, and an extra fingernail on his left (see picture below). Additionally, objects in the background were oddly shaped and distorted, and James did not appear in the reflection of the mirror behind him.

(X user @IsabellaMDeLuca)

Some AI-detection tools (Is It AI?, AI or Not, Hive) did not conclude that the photo was generated using artificial intelligence, while one, Maybe's AI Art Detector, did. TrueMedia.org concluded there was "substantial evidence of manipulation" and Fakeimagedetector.com, a site that detects digitally manipulated images, also said the picture had been modified, indicating it "Looks like Computer Generated or Modified image."

Though it was not possible to outright determine whether the photograph was AI-generated, there was substantial evidence it had at least been digitally manipulated through either alteration or modification.

(TrueMedia.org)

Lastly, no credible sources or official profiles of James have ever posted the image in question. Likewise, no reputable news outlets have reported that the photo was real.

A similar, fake picture allegedly showing James wearing a maid costume also circulated on social media with one Instagram post captioning it: "Ai is crazy."

Snopes has contacted the James' agent, Rich Paul, for comment and will update this article if or when we receive a response.

We have also investigated claims the basketball player, on the day music mogul Diddy was arrested on sex-trafficking charges, said he had a "weird feeling today was the day the feds" would arrest the rapper.

Video of LeBron James Channeling His Inner Diva as He Puts the Perforamce of His Life on Dance Floor Will Never Not be Funny

LeBron James has amassed enough fans with his skills inside the court. But when fans saw him shake his leg like a diva, they almost felt that he was in the wrong profession. James' hilarious dance performance, as seen in an old video available on different social platforms, is sure to make you like him even more.

The performance comes from an episode of Saturday Night Live, where James appeared as a host very early in his basketball career. It was part of a spoof skit based on the famous television show, Solid Gold, which featured a crew of dancers performing on the popular music of any given week.

LeBron James' Moves In This Hilarious SNL Video Will Make You His Fan For His Dancing Skills

Being one of the best players in the NBA, we can see LeBron James as very serious and focused on the court. But when he lets his lighthearted and fun side out, fans will get to see a surprisingly hilarious dance performance from him, like the one he did in SNL. The Lakers star got to host an episode of SNL during his early days in basketball.

Adorned in an attention-grabbing gold outfit, James appeared in a fun skit that mocked Solid Gold (via YouTube). He introduced himself as Alexander, one of the dancers in the crew. He shared in his funny introduction before the performance, "Hi. I'm Alexander. I'm 6 ft 8 and weigh 240 pounds. I like roasted whole turkeys."

He then went on to perform a dance routine with a group, exuding his signature charisma on the stage. Fans already know of James' acting chops as he appeared as a guest star in several films, while also leading Space Jam: A New Legacy. Fans had some pretty interesting things to say about this dance routine from the basketball legend. Some of their comments read:

How have I been alive this long and never seen this

@arnoldatuhaire3906

when this came out years ago.. i cant stop laughing.

@carbuncle1977

"I like roasted whole turkey…" Lmao So random. Lebron cracks me up

@TroubleD123abc

He's wearing the hell outta that outfit LMFAOOOOOOO

@salsasoul4112

I've been looking for this forever

@kellyl470

Needless to say, there were hate comments against James as well, with many calling his dance the "humiliation routine". Most of the hate came from basketball fans, who don't agree with James being considered one of the greatest players in the game. According to The Sports Rush, when a version of this video appeared on Instagram, fans were quick to spread hate and bring the rivalry between James and Michael Jordan into play in the comments.

It Was Not The First Time LeBron James' Dance Video Went Viral

In what appears to be the NBA's first viral YouTube video, LeBron James engaged in a friendly dance-off with none other than Shaquille O'Neal. When Shaq showed off some of his pretty cool moves, including a Helicopter on the floor, James was not afraid to show off his dance skills. Dwight Howard also joined the dance-off later in the video.

In a recent appearance on The Big Podcast with Udonis Haslem, Shaq opened up about breaking it down on the dance floor with James. He also shared that he would take on infamous Olympic breakdancer Ray Gun any place, any time.

LeBron James recently embarrassed his daughter Zhuri when he did a little dance with the American volleyball duo of Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss (via Bleacher Report). He was in attendance during their women's beach volleyball match at the Summer Olympics, where they earned a victory. James' dance caused his daughter to cover her face with her hands, which was pretty funny to watch.

Headline altered to make unfounded claim about LeBron James, Diddy | Fact check

The claim: Image shows news outlet headline on a Diddy and LeBron James sex tape

A Sept. 23 Facebook post (direct link, archive link) shows what appears to be a headline from the Spanish news outlet Marca about NBA star LeBron James and embattled music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs.

"Video of LeBron James & Diddy's Sextape continue to emerge. What is the most recent video scandal?" the purported headline reads. "The Lakers star continues to sink into controversy over the case of the fallen producer."

The post was shared more than 500 times in four days.

More from the Fact-Check Team: How we pick and research claims | Email newsletter | Facebook page

Our rating: Altered

The headline is an altered version of a genuine Marca headline that does not mention a sex tape. There is no evidence of any sex tape involving James and Combs.

Combs, James sex tape claims unfounded

Combs, who for months has faced lawsuits from victims who alleged that he sexually abused them, was arrested in New York on Sept. 16. He was charged with sex trafficking, transportation to engage in prostitution and racketeering conspiracy.

Combs pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is being held in jail without bail, and his next hearing is Oct. 9.

While stories continue to come out about the rapper and music producer, there are no credible news reports about any sex tape involving him and James.

The word "sextape" in the altered image is written in a different font than the rest of the line, a sign that it was digitally added to the image.

Indeed, the remaining words are consistent with a genuine Marca headline published on March 28 that reads, "Videos of LeBron James at Diddy's parties continue to emerge. What is the most recent video scandal?" The purported Marca headline in the post is not found on Marca's website.

Fact check: Celebrities' social media cleanses unrelated to Diddy arrest

The March 28 Marca article details how James' relationship with Combs, which dates back several years, has been under scrutiny following the music entertainer's legal troubles. But there is nothing in the report about any sex tape.

USA TODAY has previously addressed misinformation about Diddy, including an altered image that shows him posing with Vice President Kamala Harris and a false claim that celebrities Megan Fox, Usher and Pink deleted social media posts after he was arrested.

USA TODAY reached out to the user who shared the post for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Lakers Exec Reveals Details of LeBron-Bronny James Trash Talk Incident

Getty LeBron James #23 of the Los Angeles Lakers shouts to his son, Bronny James #6 of the USC Trojans, during Bronny's game against the California Golden Bears.

LeBron James followed through on his declaration that Bronny can't call him dad on the court.

LeBron showed that early in one of their first scrimmages as Los Angeles Lakers teammates. He's not here to baby his eldest son. Not while they are on their job.

Lakers vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka revealed things got heated between the father and son in one of the team's pickup games.

"[Bronny] got switched onto LeBron, and LeBron took him baseline, up and under off the glass," Pelinka told reporters on September 25. "The words exchanged afterward were probably more challenging than anything else."

That particular play sent a message to Bronny about the reality that he is about to face as he gears up for his historic NBA debut.

LeBron and Bronny are set to make history as the first father-and-son duo to play together in the NBA. Whether that happens on opening night against the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 22 is still up in the air, according to Lakers rookie coach JJ Redick.

"We obviously have talked about it as a staff and we've gotten into some specifics of what that might look like," Redick told reporters during the Lakers preseason presser on September 25. "But we haven't committed to anything. And obviously, there's a discussion to be had once we're all together with Bronny and LeBron, too. They should be a part of that discussion as well."

LeBron James' Competitive Edge

LeBron's competitive edge, even at 39, has yet to wane.

That trash-talking incident with his son was another proof aside from his spirited play in the 2024 Paris Olympics to help Team USA win the gold medal.

After Pelinka shared details of the father-and-son encounter on the court, LeBron quickly followed through with another trash talk on his Instagram story.

"Great defense. Better O," he posted, accompanied by ESPN's quote graphic of Pelinka's anecdote.

It remains to be seen whether LeBron's shadow will loom large on Bronny in what is expected to be a highly-scrutinized rookie season with the Lakers.

LeBron James Honors Derrick Rose in Retirement

LeBron paid tribute to Derrick Rose, the youngest MVP in NBA history, on his retirement.

"Much love and respect Pooh!!! Salute," James posted on his Instagram story.

Rose, 35, announced his retirement on September 26, a few days after the Memphis Grizzlies did not renew his contract.

"Thank You, My First Love," Rose said in his retirement statement. "You believed in me through the highs and lows, my constant when everything else seemed uncertain. You showed me what love truly meant. You turned the court into my sanctuary, a home where I could express myself freely…

"You gave me a gift, our time together, one that I will cherish for the rest of my days. You told me it's okay to say goodbye, reassuring me that you'll always be a part of me, no matter where life takes me."

James and Rose had their hard-fought playoff battles in the Eastern Conference during the former Bulls guard's prime.

Rose was drafted No. 1 overall by his hometown team Chicago in 2008, similar to James, who was drafted by his hometown Cleveland in 2003.

They once played as teammates at Cleveland, albeit briefly, during James' final season with the Cavaliers. But persistent injuries have robbed Rose his athleticism and desire to play during that time.

LeBron and Bronny James' debut with Lakers: Team planning historic moment for NBA's first father-son duo

The Lakers are already considering how they will handle LeBron James and Bronny James taking the court together for the first time as a father-son duo. Speaking to media members on Wednesday, new Lakers coach JJ Redick said that while concrete plans haven't been made, he intends to include both players in the process.

"We obviously have talked about it as a staff and we've gotten into some specifics of what that might look like," Redick said. "But we haven't committed to anything. And obviously, there's a discussion to be had once we're all together with Bronny and LeBron, too. They should be a part of that discussion as well."

The Lakers selected Bronny with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, officially setting the stage for LeBron and his son to become the first father-son duo to play on the same team together. There will be tons of fanfare surrounding Bronny's first game, and when he officially takes the court alongside LeBron, it will be a historic moment.

But when that happens, it remains to be seen. The Lakers open the regular season Oct. 22 against the Timberwolves at home, but Bronny doesn't figure to be a major part of L.A.'s rotation, at least not out of the gate, so it would be difficult to see him get anything more than a ceremonial moment in that opening night game. The Lakers follow that opening-night matchup with games against the Suns and Kings at home to finish out the first week -- both are important matchups in the grand scheme of things. If Bronny gets playing time then, it may be during garbage time, unless he really takes great strides during training camp to warrant anything more than that.

Despite the significant buzz it's going to cause all season long, Redick isn't concerned about the prospect of managing LeBron and Bronny, while also ensuring that the Lakers are focusing on the bigger picture.

"I don't look at it as a challenge," Redick said. "It's unique from any other challenge of coaching a player or coaching a relationship. Bronny, I feel very fortunate that I get to coach him because he's young and he's hungry, and he's got a lot of inherent skill sets that we can really mold into a really good NBA player. On top of that, he's a fantastic kid. He's extremely coachable. He's got the right spirit and energy every single day. So ... it's not something I've really thought of as a challenge."

Did Kanye West Really Reveal That LeBron James Slept With Diddy for USD 100 Million?

Kanye West made controversial remarks in a 2022 podcast, alleging that LeBron James "sold his soul" for $100 million and had a sexual relationship with Diddy. West also accused Diddy of being a "fed" and suggested that powerful elites control influential figures like James in the industry.

These comments gained renewed attention recently, especially after Diddy's legal issues emerged, sparking discussions about celebrity accountability and dynamics. Some commentators have questioned James' silence, given his usual outspokenness on various matters.

Kanye West accused LeBron James of sleeping with Diddy for $100 million and selling his soul. He claimed that James engaged in a sexual relationship with music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs for financial gain and sold his soul in exchange for the alleged $100 million payment. This resurfaced tweet has fueled speculation and debate, with many questioning the validity of West's claims.

Sources close to James strongly denied these accusations, calling them "outrageous and baseless," and threatened to pursue legal action against West for defamation. Diddy's representatives also condemned the allegations, calling them "completely false and fabricated."

West has not provided any evidence to support his accusations, and his motives remain unclear. Some speculate that he may be trying to promote his clothing line or tarnish James' reputation, while others believe West might genuinely believe in the allegations.

The allegations have tarnished James' legacy as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. His fans and supporters are standing by him, voicing their disbelief and condemning the accusations. The controversy will likely persist, with both James and West facing heightened scrutiny in the coming days.

Kanye West's accusations against LeBron James have sent shockwaves through the entertainment and sports industries. The release of a shirt with the message "Kanye West reveals how LeBron James slept with Diddy for 100 million dollars and sold his soul" has ignited widespread speculation and debate.

LeBron James and Sean "Diddy" Combs have shared a close friendship since the early days of James's career. Recently, Diddy's arrest on serious charges, including sex trafficking, has drawn attention to their relationship. Critics, such as Candace Owens, have criticized James for his silence on the issue, particularly after old videos emerged of him praising Diddy's parties. Although James has not been accused of any wrongdoing, the situation has sparked discussions about his public image and associations.

In May 2024, LeBron James unfollowed P. Diddy on Instagram, raising questions about the state of their friendship amid Diddy's legal troubles. This move has fueled speculation, with critics questioning LeBron's silence and some fans expressing disappointment over his lack of public support for Diddy during the controversy.

Kanye West’s shocking old comments about Diddy resurface, LeBron James roped into fiasco

In the aftermath of Sean 'Diddy' Combs' arrest, Kanye West's old comments about the music mogul have resurfaced. American commentator Candace Owens discussed the matter on her YouTube channel, and in doing so, she referenced West's previous comments about Diddy. Owens, in fact, also roped LeBron James into the fiasco.

West, in October 2022, appeared on the Drink Champs podcast where he blasted Diddy, his music rival. While talking about Diddy, West labelled him as a "fed." While the podcast episode was later deleted, a clip of West's comments surfaced on social media.

"The reason why you gotta talk is because you did a deal, you f*****g fed! That's why you've gotta come at me, because part of the deal for you to be able to do all that and get out of jail is that you promised that you are gonna go pull my card," West said at the time.

While West's words did not get a lot of attention back then, he is now garnering support, especially from Owens. Going live on her channel, Owens acknowledged West's comments, saying the rapper has "a way with words."

Owens noted that while West's comments have often landed him in trouble, what he said on the podcast is now making sense. "There's something about Kanye West. He has a way with words. Gets himself into a lot of trouble and then when you revisit his words you start to realise the he was making a lot of sense when you thought that he sounded completely crazy. And currently, we are in that stage where a lot that Kanye West said years ago is ageing like fine wine," she said.

Owens also discussed how Diddy being a "fed" allows him to escape legal consequences to his actions. She then recalled how West had listed out a number of celebs and athletes who were "controlled," including basketballer James.

West had said, "They can't control me. They can control Shaq, they can control Charles Barkley, they could control LeBron James, they can control Jay-Z and Beyonce. But they can't control me."

Owens then blasted James for not sharing any statement about the Diddy row, even though he speaks out for "every other topic." Owens questioned why James has remained silent on the matter even though he is always "lecturing" people even when "nobody asks his opinion."

James and Diddy have reportedly been friends for a while. Diddy was booked on September 16 on federal charges including sex trafficking and racketeering.

Austin Reaves weighs in on the legacy of LeBron James and the Lakers' COVID ring

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers were destined to cross paths at some point. The most dominant players in NBA history have consistently called the Lakers home, with the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, and Shaquille O'Neal predating James.

One of the other shared elements of James' career and the Lakers' legacy is the general public's need to dissect every moment of their existence.

James has been in the spotlight for over 20 years, during which time he's pieced together a legendary rΓ©sumΓ© that includes four NBA championships. He won the fourth of those titles with the Lakers in 2019-20—a ring that's been widely discredited due to the fact that it was won at the height of COVID-19, when games were played in the fanless NBA Bubble.

During a recent appearance on BustaJack Golf, Lakers shooting guard Austin Reaves discussed the manner in which detractors perceive the 2020 championship and scoffed at the idea that it counts less than other titles.

"It's not a Mickey Mouse ring. I don't want to say it's the hardest, I think everybody had equal play, I feel. I think it's the same as every other year. I just think if 'Bron doesn't win it, then nobody says anything. Everybody hates 'Bron. Actually, everybody loves LeBron. But he gets so much hate."

It's a take that Lakers fans around the world have given over the past four years, and Reaves has understandably joined them in that regard.

One can only hope that the circumstances will not transpire again in which a Bubble ring would be won. The entire world was on lockdown, and the NBA went on an unexpected four-plus-month break around the three-quarter mark of the 2019-20 regular season.

While many have moved to discredit everything that happened in the Bubble, it was a unique challenge for NBA teams and players to overcome.

For one, returning as though nothing happened after four months would've been a challenge on its own. Due to the advisories set in motion during the early months of COVID-19, however, athletes struggled to connect with one another, let alone trainers or nutritionists.

As such, this wasn't the same as returning from the offseason—it was an experience to which nothing can compare, and it immediately resumed with a final push for the postseason.

That established, the Lakers were 49-14 when the 2019-20 regular season went on hold—thus setting the pace for 63.8 wins on an 82-game basis. Whether you choose to round up or down, Los Angeles was certifiably elite all season—including an 11-2 record over the 13 games before the lockdown.

Even if one is to believe that COVID-19 created an unfair competitive environment, the Lakers were already trending toward a championship that season.

James, Anthony Davis, and company started the season at 24-3 and went 25-11 the rest of the way. They finished the regular season as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, and actually had more trouble than most once the season resumed—going 2-5 leading into the playoffs.

With a 16-5 record in the playoffs, a 63-plus-win pace in the regular season, and two of the best players in the NBA at the peak of their coexistent powers, the Lakers were well on their way to winning that ring regardless of the environment they played in.

Discrediting James is simply a common motive among those who oppose his success.

LeBron James accused of inflating the price of a Bronny's jersey at auction: How much did it go for?

LeBron James has been accused of artificially inflating the price of his son's jersey at an auction as the youngster prepares to make his NBA debut with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024/25 season.

The James are already billionaires but that didn't stop them commanding a fee of $38,500 for one of Bronny James' Summer League jerseys with the four-time NBA champion even being accused of purchasing it himself.

"Jersey was originally estimated to sell for $6K-$10k," J. E. Skeets told the No Dunks podcast. "Bronny's Summer League jersey. game in which I think he scored two points (4 points, 2-9 FG). He struggled."

His co-host, Trey Kerby then made the suggestion that Bronny's dad bought it himself by saying, "This will look sweet in LeBron's man cave. $38,000 is a lot of money unless you're a billionaire."

The suggestion seems to be that James' alleged decision to purchase at $38,000, far above the rate for an upcoming talent, would inflate his son's stock and improve his value which could lead to stronger sponsors and endorsements.

For example, the $38,000 Bronny jersey dwarfed that of the Atlanta Hawks' first pick Zacharie Risacher's Summer League Jersey, which sold for $3360.

However, the price of Bronny's jersey is not even close to what some other names in the NBA can command. For example, Michael Jordan's 1998 NBA Finals jersey sold for almost $10.1 million dollars.

Whilst the San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama's regular season debut jersey sold for $7.62 million dollars, becoming one of the most expensive auction pieces in NBA history as he went on to secure sponsors with the likes of Louis Vuitton.

Bronny, selected in the second round as the overall 55th pick in the 2024 Draft, will have the chance to kick off his NBA career alongside his dad on Tuesday, October 22.

The Lakers welcome the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Crypto.com Arena at 22:00 ET/19:00 PT to start the 2024/25 NBA season as LeBron James chases a fifth career ring.

“He Doesn’t Go Like Paul Pierce”: LeBron James’ Supposed Lack Of Various Skills Get Called Out By Kwame Brown

Although LeBron James has secured his place on the NBA's Mount Rushmore, his perceived lack of variety in one-on-one matchups remains a hot topic on talk shows. This prompted Kwame Brown to expand on this narrative during his appearance on the Swish Cultures podcast.

The 42-year-old believed the Lakers talisman has failed to develop a mid-range or post-game even after spending 21 years in the league. Brown argued that the 4x champion's gameplay thus continues to center around shooting threes and driving to the basket. He then pointed to Paul Pierce's signature mid-range jumper to further challenge James' superstar status, saying,

"The old-school players wouldn't have any trouble with LeBron because, at 39, he should have developed a mid-range and a post-game, and he still hasn't yet… His game really hasn't evolved outside of a three, and putting his head down and going to the basket. He doesn't go like Paul Pierce, getting to a spot, pulling up. Those are the things you normally see out of a superstar player."

Brown's bold declaration raises a few eyebrows considering James' evolution. For context, the Akron-born relied heavily on his athleticism to drive to the basket during his early years. However, this began to change toward the end of his first stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He started focusing on jump shots that complemented his agility and pace. During the latter half of his Miami Heat years, the 20x All-Star also worked tirelessly to become a lethal three-point shooter. By the time he returned to Cleveland, James had already perfected these skills.

His numbers began to reflect these gradual improvements. Since the 2009/10 campaign, James' field goal percentage has consistently been above 50% in nearly every season. The same goes for his three-point shooting, which has generally remained above the league average of 35%.

More importantly, James has adapted his gameplay to suit his physical condition. At 39, he is still one of the quickest players in the league when sprinting down the floor. As a result, he relies on driving to the basket as much as possible to score points. He has also added a fadeaway three-pointer to his skill set. This highly efficient shot has become one of his signature moves in recent times.

These instances prove how James has set a benchmark for the rest of the league in achieving and maintaining superstar status. His relentless desire to become a more formidable version of himself has taken him to unfathomable heights. At the same time, it has strengthened his belief in the importance of teamwork.

James has always believed that basketball is a team game. As a result, he prefers to practice in-game situations with his teammates. He even spoke about it during an episode of Mind the Game podcast, saying,

"There's a narrative of this thing called 'I have a bag.' It bothers the **** out of me. Everyone thinks that just because you get a favorable matchup, that means it's 1 on 1 time…. what the **** is this? This is not Jordan vs Bird Nintendo."

His Lakers teammate, Austin Reaves, later validated this statement. During an appearance on the BustaJack Golf YouTube channel, the 26-year-old stated, "He [LeBron James] don't play one-on-one. He said one-on-one is not real basketball."

Reaves' statement further showcases James' firm belief in team basketball. It also explains why, at the age of 39, LeBron remains one of the NBA's best players.

Video: Lakers' Reaves Says LeBron Winning in Bubble is Why Critics Downplay Title

Bart Young/NBAE via Getty Images

Arguably nobody in NBA history has been under more of a microscope and faced more scrutiny than LeBron James throughout his career, and Los Angeles Lakers teammate Austin Reaves believes that scrutiny is why some downplay the title the team won inside the Disney World bubble during the 2020 playoffs.

"It's not a Mickey Mouse ring," he said during an appearance on BustaJack Golf (26:20 mark). "… Everybody had an equal playing field, I think it's the same as every other year. I just think if Bron doesn't win it, then nobody says anything. Everybody hates Bron. Actually, everybody loves LeBron, but he gets so much hate."

Reaves wasn't yet on the Lakers at the time, as his rookie season came during the 2021-22 campaign.

So he brings more of an outsider perspective than other members of the Lakers would, and he recognized the difficulty of the situation. The NBA season was put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic and only restarted inside the Disney World bubble where strict testing and protocols were put in place.

There were also no fans for any of the games, which removed the home-court advantage that typically plays a role in the playoffs.

Yet, as Reaves pointed out, every team played under the same conditions. And James led the Lakers to what was the fourth championship of his illustrious career by averaging 27.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game in the postseason.

It was a memorable ring, although it likely wasn't the most memorable title of the King's career.

That came in 2016 when he led the Cleveland Cavaliers on a dramatic 3-1 comeback over the record-setting Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. Golden State won 73 games during the regular season but was unable to defeat James, Kyrie Irving and Co. in the Finals.

That win was largely celebrated with far less ridicule than the 2020 championship, although Reaves was not about to entertain the notion the bubble ring was a "Mickey Mouse" one.

Tayshaun Prince Explains The Key Difference Between Guarding LeBron James And Kobe Bryant

Tayshaun Prince Breaks Down How Guarding LeBron James Differs from Kobe Bryant.Kobe Bryant, Tayshaun Prince And LeBron James (Images Credit: Getty Images)

Tayshaun Prince, a former NBA player known for his strong defense, has shared important thoughts on guarding two basketball legends: Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. Both are famous for scoring and impacting the game, but they present different challenges for defenders. Prince talked about these challenges on TNT's "KG Area 21," hosted by Kevin Garnett. Moreover, he explained how each player's style and physicality change how defenders should play.

When guarding Kobe, Tayshaun Prince stressed the need to stop him from reaching his "sweet spots." He said. "With Kobe, there was a sense of you have to make sure that you don't let him get to 'sweet spots' because it was a rhythm thing with Kobe. Get to footwork, know what he wanted to do. The fadeaway, stuff like that. He is 6'6″, I'm 6'9″, let me use my length. If I could just stay close, stay on the ground and jump, and give good contests, I'll bother it a little bit."

Tayshaun Prince on differences between guarding Lebron and Kobe:

"With Kobe you have to make sure he doesnt get to his sweet spots, With Lebron you have to fight through like 150 pick and rolls"

Kobe had skills and was a threat from everywhere on the floor, Lebron is a pick and… pic.twitter.com/TTcP7KHVnd

— Thetruth (@Thetruth8240) September 21, 2024

Kobe played against Prince 24 times, averaging 24.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. He had a standout game, scoring 40 points on March 4, 2006. Tayshaun Prince mentioned that being physical was crucial when defending Kobe. "He's gonna be physical with you; you want to try to wear him down. They let him get away with everything. He tries to wear you down," he added.

On the other hand, defending LeBron was about handling his strength and trying to contain him. Tayshaun Prince explained, "With LeBron, it was a physicality standpoint. Beat you up, muscle to the rim, trying to be just super-physical. The thing with LeBron, I could never get on the side of him. Always stay in front, always stay here. Because the minute you get on aside, it's over."

Prince faced LeBron 40 times, with LeBron averaging 23.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 6.4 assists against him. As a result, guarding LeBron required being alert and working with teammates. "I would say to my teammates, 'Don't let him turn that corner.' If I get on his hip, it's you and him mano a mano," he explained.

Tayshaun Prince's thoughts show the different challenges of guarding Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. Defending Kobe needed precision to disrupt his rhythm and shots while defending LeBron required physical stamina and smart positioning to handle his explosive play. According to Prince, understanding these differences is key for any defender facing such legendary talents.

LeBron James on playing with Bronny: 'It’s going to be an unbelievable year for myself, and I hope for him as well'

By | September 21, 2024

LeBron James: "You know, it's definitely different in the sense of, you know, just mentioning with Bronny being a part of the team now. I mean, I'm looking at you two guys right now. I think it's one of the greatest things in the world to be able to work with your kid, you know. So, this week we got back into the gym, and it was really the first time that me and Bronny were on the floor as professionals training, going against each other, preparing for the season. And there were a couple moments where I kind of just lost focus, you know, and I'm not used to losing focus when I'm out on the floor. But, you know, a couple times I was just looking to the side, watching him, watching him prepare and watching him go after it. LeBron James' true feelings on getting Olympics honor

Team USA brought home their fifth straight Olympics gold medal this summer with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James at the helm. It was James' third gold medal and it's not a stretch to suggest that Team USA might have been in trouble had he not been on the roster.

But prior to the actual games being played, James had an incredible honor bestowed upon him in getting to be the flag bearer for the United States during their boat parade as part of the opening ceremonies. During a recent episode of the show, 'Gojo and Golic' as part of the DraftKings Network, James spoke about receiving that honor.

"I didn't know how to feel about it. I had seen so many different flag bearers and so many great athletes carry our flag and represent our country. We come into a team meeting and Steph [Curry], he did the video for me and then said in front of the team that I had become elected alongside the great Coco Gauff," James said. "The moment just kind of hit me then. It's something that's super surreal. To be in the front of that boat, in Paris with all our Olympians, and holding that flag was just such a sense of pride."

LeBron James helped Team USA to another gold medal while en route to being selected as the Olympics MVP.

With the Olympics now in the rearview, the attention shifts to the upcoming NBA season for the Lakers. James is fresh off signing a two-year contract extension with the team amid him being the league's oldest player. This past season, James became the first player in NBA history to reach 40,000 career points. This a season after he became the NBA's all-time leading scorer.

Carmelo Anthony snubbed LeBron James off his list of favourite teammates

Being teammates in the NBA can eventually turn into a love/hate relationship, as you live and share your locker room every day with fierce competitors that not only want the best for their team, but also individually. Carmelo Anthony recently shed some light on the complexity of fighting for the same jersey, when he named his favourite teammates of all time.

We are not saying this is the case between the former All-Star and LeBron James, but we can only speculate this after Melo snubbed the Lakers forward off his list. This surprising omission has sparked controversy over the nuances of their relationship.

It all started on the latest episode of his podcast 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony & The Kid Mero. "I think out of all the teammates, it would have to be, I would say, it would have to be J.R. Smith and Kenyon Martin because that's who was on my team for the longest of all of our years.

"We was in Denver. We was here in New York," Melo shared. "We spent a lot of time together to the point where it's like, I don't even have to look at you, and you know what type of mode I'm in. You know what I'm about to do. You know, you see it ahead of time."

Even though Anthony has always praised LeBron as one of the best to ever play basketball, he's recently been more vocal about his deep respect for Kevin Durant's game, who he believes deserves to be part of the GOAT conversation.

After Kevin Durant almost singlehandedly beat the Bulls at the start of the year with his 40-point performance, Carmelo appeared this year on an edition of the 7PM in Brooklyn show and shared his thoughts.

"Kevin Durant was recently interviewed, and he said, 'despite all the accolades I got, I did everything that a GOAT is supposed to do but I ain't in the GOAT conversation, what's up with that?'…So at the end of the day when it's all said and done, does KD deserve to be in the GOAT conversation?" he was asked.

Anthony has described Kevin Durant as one of the GOATs many times before, praise he's also shared for James but in a different manner

Especially in recent years, Melo has given more props to KD as the GOAT, than he has to LeBron. "…Absolutely! I hate the GOAT talk…he will go down as arguably the most purest scorer that this league has ever seen. He's a five level scorer. There's nowhere he can't score on the court. He's a champion…He's seven feet. He changed the game," he said earlier this year.

Melo then explained why he's already one of the greatest. "How [are] you not going to say he's not in the conversation with the GOAT?…If we talking ring culture, Michael Jordan is not the GOAT, Bill Russell is…But people gonna say Michael Jordan is the GOAT…to answer the question, yeah, that man is in the GOAT talk. He is a GOAT," he assured.

There's no doubt that the Phoenix superstar is one of the purest and most clutch scorers the NBA has ever seen, but is his legacy greater than we think? In a conversation this year with the press, he suggested that there's only one reason why he isn't in the GOAT conversation.

"Because I went to the Warriors," Durant first said, as his decision to join Golden State was among the most controversial free-agent choices ever. "Why shouldn't I be in that? That's the question you should ask. Why not? What haven't I done?"

Adrian Wojnarowski's retirement Before LeBron James Leads To Comical Reactions From FansLeBron James (Image Credit: Getty Images)

LeBron James has recently added another chapter to his storied career with a two-year contract extension from the Los Angeles Lakers. As he heads into his 22nd NBA season, speculation about his retirement swells.

Though James has hinted that his retirement is approaching, he still seems eager to continue playing. His agent, Rich Paul, has even expressed hopes that James will extend his career by another two or three seasons.

However, the news cycle took an unexpected turn recently when ESPN analyst Adrian Wojnarowski announced his retirement. Wojnarowski is leaving ESPN for a new role at his alma mater, St. Bonaventure University. This move comes despite having three years remaining on his contract with ESPN.

The announcement of Wojnarowski's retirement before LeBron James has led to a wave of comical and lighthearted comments online. NBA fans have taken to social media, playfully suggesting that Wojnarowski's decision to retire now, just as James is set to continue his career, is a cosmic sign of the Lakers star's longevity.

Some fans have praised James for his remarkable durability and ability to remain active in the league well into his 22nd season.

And some people still want to act like LeBron isn't the 🐐

— Tre Graves (@TreGraves_) September 19, 2024

As no NBA player has played more than 22 seasons, there is growing speculation about whether LeBron James will retire after this season. Following the Lakers' early exit from the 2024 NBA Playoffs, where the Denver Nuggets defeated them in the first round, James addressed the rumors about his potential retirement. He took to social media to share his thoughts.

"I've seen and heard a lot of reports about my future. I said it last night, and I'll say it again. I do not know yet, as I'm only thinking about spending time with my family and friends! When I know, after speaking with the family, my counsel as well as my representation about it, then you guys will know," James wrote.

The 39-year-old James is coming off a season averaging 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game.

30 Teams in 30 Days: Lakers again pin hopes on LeBron James, Anthony Davis

LeBron James & Anthony Davis

All-NBA seasons from LeBron James and Anthony Davis weren't enough to lift the Lakers past the 1st round.

Offseason

  • Re-signing: Max Christie, LeBron James
  • Additions: Coach JJ Redick, Christian Koloko
  • Draft: Dalton Knecht (No. 17 pick), Bronny James (No. 55)
  • Departures: Coach Darvin Ham, Spencer Dinwiddie (to Mavs), Taurean Prince (to Bucks)
  • Unsigned Free Agents: Harry Giles III, Skylar Mays
  • Last season

Let's get to the positives: LeBron James and Anthony Davis were superb. Davis reaffirmed his status in the league as a high-impact player on both ends of the floor (24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game). As for James, he brought bounce to his 21st season, leading the Lakers in scoring (25.7 ppg), assists (8.3 apg) and steals (1.3 apg). Both were All-NBA players.

The rest, however, were plagued with inconsistency and underperformance. Austin Reaves had moments, as did D'Angelo Russell. But once the playoffs began, the Lakers leaned too heavily on their two stars, which is never the recipe for postseason longevity, at least not in the loaded West. As a result, the Denver Nuggets sent the Lakers home for the second straight postseason.

    Summer summary

The Lakers took the road lightly traveled in their search to replace Ham, who quickly fell out of favor both in the locker room and front office. At least he previously served as an assistant coach before getting the job. His replacement is a complete neophyte in every way.

JJ Redick played the game and, judging from his brief TV career, knows it, too. He just never coached it, and while that's not unprecedented (Doc Rivers and Pat Riley, among others), he's coming to a team that's win-now given that James turns 40 in December. Redick will have to overcome his inexperience to succeed.

    Spotlight on

Bronny James will likely spend much of his rookie season in the NBA G League and player development whenever he's called up to the A-team. Second-round picks are rarely factors right away, especially on teams with postseason plans. But this is James' oldest son and he's here for a reason — to make history when he and his father first appear on the court together.

How far can the Lakers go?

This team has capable role players and is anxious to see what a healthy Jarred Vanderbilt and Gabe Vincent can do for a change. Improvements in 3-point shooting and defense will be paramount for the Lakers to avoid the Play-In Tournament.

Video: LeBron James, Jayson Tatum Among NBA Stars in 'Starting 5' Trailer for Netflix

    Maddie Meyer/Getty Images

NBA fans are anxiously awaiting the release of the upcoming Starting 5 documentary series on Netflix, and they received a first taste on Tuesday.

Netflix released the trailer for Starting 5 ahead of the Oct. 9 release date featuring NBA stars LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards and Domantas Sabonis:

The trailer showed how in-depth the documentary series will go to show different sides of some of the NBA's biggest stars. There were clips of interviews with the players' families and loved ones. James' daughter Zhuri, his youngest child, even made an appearance while speaking about her legendary father.

Netflix unveiled Starting 5 as the latest installment to its long list of acclaimed sports series last month, revealing that the 10-part show will provide fans with a behind-the-scenes look at the 2023-24 season from each player's perspective.

"The series captures their battles on and off the court as they chase greatness, push through injuries, and balance the demands of family and legacy," a release stated.

Fans will enjoy watching what James went through to stay healthy in his 21st season in the NBA as well as how Edwards handled his rise to superstardom after he established himself as one of the future faces of the league. Butler and Sabonis navigated up-and-down seasons with their respective teams, while Tatum helped lead the Boston Celtics to the 2024 NBA championship.

Starting 5 will look to achieve the same success as Netflix's other sports programming like Quarterback, Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Simone Biles Rising, Full Swing and more.

NBA insider reveals that tension between LeBron, Curry over GOAT debate ‘was real’

Stephen Curry and LeBron James might have seemed like the best of friends back in July when they conquered a gold medal with Team USA during these past 2024 Paris Olympics, but this wasn't always the case. Moreover, a certain NBA insider recently talked about the time that both players' camps were involved in a heated debate over who was the GOAT.

Sam Amick of The Athletic reminded us about this time in NBA history. "We were at all those Finals where I don't care what LeBron says now," he recalled. "It's not a matter of them having animosity toward one another, but they were rivals.

"Their camps didn't always love the way that the other player was talked about. LeBron's people did not love it when people started calling Steph the best player in the world. There was a tension that was real."

Nowadays, there is no doubt that they are both future Hall of Famer that helped define this basketball generation. However, even though both superstars share four NBA championships, only LeBron finds himself today in the "greatest of all time" discussions, involving Michael Jordan.

Today, as friends, James has opened up about their relationship. "LeBron versus Steph, they should never smile against each other on the court," the King told USA Today. "They should hate each other. We get it. We understand that a lot of y'all maybe grew up in a (Larry) Bird-Magic (Johnson) era and they shouldn't like each other.

"But I'm also old enough to know that Isiah (Thomas) and Magic hugged each and kissed each other on the floor too because it was just mutual respect. You know what I'm saying?"

LeBron also mentioned how rivals used to deal with each other in the past. "I'm also old enough to know that they say Michael (Jordan) never talked to any of his opponents, but I'm also smart enough to know that him and Charles (Barkley) had a lot of conversations during the '93 Finals and also played golf once against each other," the Lakers star expressed.

The Golden State icon recently said he was looking forward to moments with LeBron, whether they are 'teammates or not'

After winning gold over the summer, Curry spoke with Natasha Dye of People, reflecting on the significance of playing alongside James rather than against him. "All the battles we've had on the court and the back and forth, the fact that we actually got to be teammates, not just in any game like an All-Star Game or whatever, but in high-stakes basketball with a lot on the line.

"I think there's a deepened respect and friendship there," expressed the Warriors icon. This experience, he noted, was different from any All-Star game, as it involved high stakes and a shared goal.

Curry further expressed his desire for more opportunities to share the court with James, whether as teammates or rivals. "Hopefully, there will be more experiences in the future, even if we're teammates or not," he added. "We still have to compete against each other until it's all over."

For many NBA fans, the idea of Curry and James teaming up on an NBA roster is tantalizing, though it remains unlikely. Despite this, the idea has fueled plenty of speculation, especially as both players approach the latter stages of their careers.
